my arrows seem pretty loud to me when I draw back, have gold tip hunters. Talked to local archery shop yesterday and he told me the arrows finish is a rougher one, need a smoother arrow. Two fold question, will the little bit of noise matter hunting time and would a smoother finish make a difference. Thanks

I know the noise:) it sucks. Have to stay away from any Camo arrows or textured shafts.

I'm using Bemans ICS hunters and they have smooth shafts and are great but don't get the hunter pro. They have Camo on them.

I also shoot a heavier arrow that is a Carbon Express Piledrivers which is a little thicker shaft and has Camo. I took a fine steelwool and smoothed down the finish some but they still make some noise.

Wish they'd make softer edges on the WB bristles.

I surely wouldn't want to find out! Sure hope you either change arrows or change rest before a giant walks in front of you at 20 yards broadside and that noise scares the crap out of him and you never get to see him again!

With that said I think that noise cost me a hog last weekend at 23 yards:(. I think it matters but I would change Arrows before I change rests.
Only rest with a 100% guarentee. I think their bullet proof for hunting with.

Well I would have to argue with your opinion on changing arrows instead of the rest! First off I'd say climate will have a huge say in the sound with the temps, I'm from Alberta where the temps can hit -40 and your from the south where the temps might hit a low of 0. Drawing at -temps with a wisker buscuit on will cause noise no matter what you do ! I've had this happen twice on good bucks both times and that was it for the wisker biscuit . Enter the Quad drop away, smooth ,quite and reliable.

I remember the days of aluminum shafts on a cold arrow rest and how many deer I spooked back then simply drawing my bow on a cold morning or evening. If you are getting noise like that I wouldn't hesitate to change the rest before the arrows and risk it. Heck, you could spend more money on new smooth arrows and still have a problem. When I went to a QAD drop away the noise problem has been a thing of the past with the felt they use on their launchers. Many other similar rests out there will be just as good as well.

I've drawn back on a deer just 5 yards from me on a hillside at eye level while I was in my stand and he didn't hear anything. Arrows that are rough will make noise while slick arrows don't. Try the WB spray to reduce noise and friction: scorpionvenomarchery.com

I hear ya youngfart. Like I said I'd like them to perfect the WB for that reason but I still like the stability and forgiveness of a WB for stalking in on game and set up. I also like the fact that even if I screw up and hit a nocked arrow on something that it just pull over or out of the WB.

When first started bow hunting I had a drop away and had issues of the arrow hanging up on one side and me shooting an arrow 3 ft from my target:( scary. Or the arrow just falling off the rest. Or the fletchings hitting and the string not pulling the arrow rest all the way up etc.
I just want to spend more time practicing my shooting and hunting skills and not tweaking my bows setup. I'm not saying never but for now it works for me.

pretty simple solution...put the tiniest amount of cotton from a qtip on top of the black area of the rest...I mean just a tiny bit...your bow will draw back slently and have no impact on arrow flight.

thanks for the responses, think ill buy an arrow that looks smoother, can get em one at a time around here, or just draw one back at archery shop to test. Hunt state land and spending way to much energy stomping through the woods to get it messed up by not spending 60.00, im looking at the apache rest. Thanks again

You coould buy the arrows but why not try to WB spray which is a much cheaper option? If it works, it's a win/win situation. If it doesn't you're only out $10.

spray is a simple solution, but im ragging out the wb already, starting to look pretty rough. Im shooting every other day now and putting at least 70 arrows each time I shoot. I know felt will wear out to, I wanted to keep it simple, less moving parts and all that. This is really loud though, had the wife stand next to me, couple feet away, she heard it plain. Going to just get the apache instead and be done with it.

Buy a drop away now 1) Biscuits will shootout @ 500 arrows and your groups go to hell, 2) Goodluck in -10.

Bought a octane highjack instead, apache was a lot heavier, these have issues with wear on felt, guy at gander gave me enough mole skin to last a couple years. Holds the arrow nice, dead silent, pain to load arrow, but for 45.00 im ok with it, still have the wb as a back up. Ill do a review on this when I have shot a few hundred through it.

I have never tried this but a guy told me one time to wax my shafts with car wax. It will smooth-en them up and make them a bit faster.
