Congrats on the bow. The place I checked out the other day looks really promising. There are a couple spots in going to go in and check out further. I saw a couple smaller bucks and a good number of pretty good sized does. I'll pick out a few locations I think and hit this public spot hard early season Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Here's where I hope to connect with one. Finished trimming some branches so I could shoot. I'm in a section of woods with a cornfield 30 yards behind me that's the neighbors and I burned and planted this food plot last weekend in rye. The rye had sprouted on top of the ground so we will see if it takes. Spread some clover today. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That looks like a sweet spot and you have plenty of cover in that tree. It reminds me a little of my main hunting spot. Outside of the small food plot its thick all around which means youbdont have much warning before the deer are right on top of you. Hope you slay a giant there!
Thanks! I'm hoping I can get something green growing here so I can get them to move through more predictably. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well guys, tonight was my first night in the stand. I didn't see any deer while I was in the stand but boy do I have a good story to tell. The first step I take in the woods behind the land owner's house I see fresh poop. It was about 2:20-2:30pm mind you. With the warm weather I knew it couldn't have been very old. So I really take my time going into this spot. I walk another 30 yards on this tiny trail that was cut out of the woods so I could get a tractor back there to plant a small food plot. After I cross a dried up creek bed the trail gradually inclines and cuts around to the left by an almost completely dried up pond. As I start up the incline I see antlers. I freeze, it's Lahmi! I fall to the ground, pull my bag off and grab my release and get ready. He doesn't see me and continues to mess with some tiny tree limbs until I loose sight of him. I back out and take the long way to my tree stand on the other side. I'm not certain that he didn't see me but I don't think he did. I may have been able to close a little more distance and shoot him on the ground. However, Lahmi is not the deer I'm after and even if he was, there could have been a good chance that I could have blown that encounter a 100 different ways and I wasn't about to do that. Looked like he was still in velvet. All in all it was a pretty cool experience, hope I get to see his big brother tomorrow! Lahmi
I'll be checking a camera on Friday. Hopefully I have some pictures on it. Then Sunday probably setting a stand or two. To kill some time lately I've tried my hand at some dove hunting. They are fast and there aren't many around my area it seems like but my 2nd day out ever I finally put one on the ground. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Nice. Season opens Saturday for me. No idea what to expect. My wife is probably hunting opening night. I may hunt in the morning. TBD.
Thanks. I forgot about WI opening up. I'll be in a wedding Saturday. Good luck to both of you. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
If you're still in the Champaign area there are plenty of doves around the hunting just doesn't heat up until some of the corn fields start getting taken out.
Im in the Bloomington area now. But thats good to know. I don't really know what I'm doing lol just going out and hoping for the best.
Hopefully going out tomorrow afternoon.. Today was the season opener, but had to work. Will be out Saturday as well, hopefully will be getting something.
Nothing this morning.. Buddy got one on the other side of the property.. Heading to a different spot in the morning.
