While we're on the topic again about Whisker Biscuits, what are the pros and cons vs the Hostage rest?

    Bump.

Just wondering if the Hostage rest has less friction why use the whisker?

Before I jumped to the Apache, I switched from a WB to a Hostage Pro to a NAP 360 because there is less friction on the arrow. Personally I liked the Hostage Pro better than the WB, but the downside to it was the bottom brush wears down quicker. However I liked the NAP 360 better because that little rubber piece lasted longer than the Hostage Pro's brush. If I was to rank the containment rests I've used it'd be NAP 360, Hostage Pro then WB. Just my .02

OK this has nothing to do with Bows or Hunting but had to ask. GABowhunter, you are from GA have a Gator as your Profile pic and Go Vols in your Signature. What is your major malfunction Private Pile? it's down right blasphemous.

The hostage rest needs to have the bottom brushes replaced every so often ($9 for a set of 3). It wore faster when I used Easton Axis arrows (think it had to do with the smaller diameter resting all the way down in the groove of the brushes). I have not noticed much wear with my Gold Tips and I assume other arrows with the same diameter would be comparable. I think both are great for hunting. I had two Quick Tunes but the rubber bottom piece was not 100% straight and could not get it to tune properly. they were just defected products, and I don't think it is a widespread issue, but I do favor the WB and Hostage

Living in GA has nothing to do with my football affiliation. Born and raised in TN, family is originally from Knoxville, so the Orange blood lines run deep. As for the Gator avatar....I lost a bet :throw:

Come on people keep up, read all these threads to get all the jokes especially if you are going to "call someone out".

Wasn't trying to "call you out" just trying to see if you were one of "those guys" that say they are a fan of both teams. BTW GO GATORS!!!!

On paper next year should be a pretty good season. We'll have to see how it all plays out.

I have the Hostage Pro on my Invasion , i had it on my Destroyer as well , i know i've heard alot of storys from guys that there brushes would wear out fast , all i can say is if your bow is set up properly it wont wear your brushes out , i probally have over 5000 shots on my brushes and there still like brand new.

Interesting about the hostage brushes wearing out.

I just love the WB for stalk and hunts. You can nock your arrow and know matter how you hit your arrow on something, it stays put.

I have shot both and to tell you the truth, I was disappointed... Yes, there is less friction with the hostage but the bristles used to contain the arrow are not high quality at all!!! They wear down really fast, about 25-50 shots and accuracy will visually decrease by a good bit. I had to change out the bristles 3 times in one season, I then switched to the whisker biscuit which I had much greater success with! It is more durable and has better containment but it harder on your vanes... If I were to give you my personal opinion I would say spend the extra money and buy a good drop away rest, this will save you money in the future after buying replacement bristles haha... If not, I would definitely say the whisker biscuit beats out the hostage

working in 2 pro shops and also my personal experience with both has led me to use solely the WB. The WB is just plain one of the best if not the best hunting rest on the market. I know this will stir the pot, but for those that say the WB is less accurate or robs you of speed, I have done the tests and robinhoods at 20 to 50 yards and a 1fps loss (according to 3 separate chronos) shows different. The WB is more durable, reliable, and as far as set up, both the above are simple as pie!

IMO, the WB is the all around hunting rest! I really dont see how you can go wrong with it.

My first bow was a Mathews and I put a fall away rest on it. I thought it was super cool and worked very well until I got into tree stands. The answer was clear, whisker biscuit. I don't think I noticed any loss then and have since switched to PSE and have now always used a whisker biscuit. Has anyone done crono testing with fall away vs biscuit? I'm curios to know if there's a tradeoff going on...

    Thanks

Problem is the same with all brush style rests, inconsistency as the brushes wear and break. Your first shot is your most accurate and only goes down hill from there. Id get a fall away.

I understand the concept of a fall-away rest not interfering whatsoever with the flight but on the other hand, I am incredibly accurate (consistently) using the biscuit.

... just curious to know if anyone here has ever measured the speed of their arrow with a fall-away and then with a biscuit.

Several years ago I put a WB on my son's bow, and I also went to a WB to try out just for kicks. I lost 3-4fps vs my drop away, assuming the chrono I used was correct. I used to hate them just because I thought how stupid it is to shoot through something and interfere with the arrow flight - it was counter intuitive to everything I thought I knew. That was before I tried one, and LOL....now I love it. Its a solid, no frills rest with no major downside, imo.

The biggest complaint I hear is "it wears out my vanes". If your bow is tuned properly, this just doesnt happen in my experience. I've got thousands of shots on my vanes (blazers), and they still look new. If the tuning is a little off, absolutely it will mark up or damage the fletching.
