Getting a parts list together for our bathroom remodel, and this is one of the stickers. I'm planning to start demo in a week or so, so I want to make a decision soon. Wife doesn't really have a preference, and neither do I, but I could see having a whirlpool tub being nice on occasion. However, then I think of the more things that can go wrong with the pump, wiring, etc,. Just more parts to have to maintain or service if the time arises. Price wise, the unit we're looking at comes in both a whirlpool and non-whirlpool version. I would save about $800 by not going with the whirlpool version (this is for a surround and tub for an Alcove), so there are some financial benefits.

Thoughts? Anyone own one and have regrets? Anyone own one and have recommendations?

    Thanks.

We have one in our master bath. Wife and kids freakin love it! Even I give er a spin occasionally. Haven't had any real maintenance concerns either.

The only problem with those type of tubs is there is always water left in the jet lines. If you don't use the jets for a while they can start to mold a bit and maybe even smell. Simple fix is to make sure you use it often or run some bleach water in the tub before use after a long sit.

Spend your money elsewhere, like a frameless glass shower door or something. You will rarely ever use the whirlpool bath.

We thought it was a must for our master bath when looking to buy our house, now we are looking at doing a remodel of the master bath and that's the first thing that will be coming out.

we never use ours, thought it was a good idea at the time we were building. used it to bathe our kids when they were toddlers more than anything, without using the jets.

I will never support the Whirlpool name anymore. They sold out the American workers when they closed down the Evansville, Indiana plant and moved it to Mexico. 1000's American works lost their jobs. It time to take a stand and make the USA a great self supporting country like it was in the 1940's.

I think there are better places to spend the money on a bathroom remodel. From previous experience we tended to think of the whirlpool type bath being used similarly to a hot tub...but truthfully it doesn't work well for that. For us it was already in a master bedroom/ bath built into a corner...the only thing it ended up getting used for is to look nice the double shower sees all the use. We do have hot tub outside on a deck and that is a entire different experience..well worth it and enjoyable, with almost weekly use though the year...the whirlpool bath...not so much.

My parents put one in our last house (well, before I moved out anyway)... They have been there 11 years now, and honest to god it has never been turned on and used one time.

Nicer fixtures/shower stall doors/etc would fill out my budget before a whirlpool tub. Heck, save a few more pennies and get a hot tub for that new deck you have.

Thanks, everyone. Seems we would be best off to forgo that option seeing as this isn't a master bath, and we're not even planning to stay here forever.

Trevor, as for the hot tub on the deck, don't give my wife anymore ideas:D

I like the frameless glass shower idea with one of those rain forest shower heads.
