I've been looking at a new trail cam for next season and have narrowed it down to these. Moultrie M-880 Gen 2, Bushnell trophy cam HD essential, Stealth Cam G triad and the Covert mp8 black 40. I like pretty much everything about all of them but leaning more towards the Stealth Cam and the Covert even though I am a big Moultrie fan. Which trail cam would you pick and why?
The M-880 gen 2 is a fine camera and durable, pic quality is not very outstanding but okay all around, good night pics, day pics were always a little out of focus around the edge. Bushnell trophy cam...I don't know about the newer ones, I had two trophy cams (2009 or 10 models) and they were the most unreliable cameras I have ever owned...pic quality was okay to good. Stealth cam G...don't have one I have the G42ng's and are a fantastic camera...day pics are fantastic, night pics are okay, have been reliable with no problems. Covert MP8 black, I have two...durable with great battery life, day pics are good, night pics are fair to so-so, I had a lot of motion blur with mine in night pics. I'm still reading about durability problems with the Bushnells. Pretty hard to go wrong with any of the other three, they all have their strengths and weakness. Right now, I prefer my stealth cams far and away, I go through those first when I'm setting out cameras and leave them out longest. I prefer the M-880's second and the Covert MP8 blacks third due to night motion blur and grainy night pics but they have the best battery life (I'd rather have better all around pics personally)
I would get the stealth cam or covert. Have never had any luck with Moultrie or their customer service.
I've had nothing bad happen with my A-5. Actually the only bad thing I had happen with it was when there was a snow storm and the temp was well below 0. I just brought it in and it worked like new the next day.
That would get my vote as well. I have a G42 and comparing it to the mp8 black, I would choose the stealth cam in a heartbeat.
I think the pics from the stealthcams are great but let me throw another one into the mix for you, the Browning Strike Force HD. For the money I think it's a great unit. It's getting good reviews from about everywhere. Blessings.......Pastorjim
My cousin told me not to play around with trail cams and get a Moultrie. So I did. It wouldn't take the first photo. I know some products will have a defect right out the box. I returned it and bought a Bushnell Trail cam and have been quite satisfied ever since. Takes awesome photos in the day time and night. I will look to see if I have any saved on my computer and post them so you can see. Not real expensive and works great.
For the Money the Browning Strike Force HD, is the best camera in my opinion out right now......I have 5 of them and they work flawlessly.......2nd place would be the Bushnell Aggressor Low Glow Flash. Just my .02 worth!! Creeks!

I'd get the Stealth G42NG. Day pictures are hard for any camera to beat and the night flash range is really good also.
I just bought the 2015 Bushnell Trophy Cam no glow. I just deploy it in the field so I dont have any personal feedback yet but I pick it because trailcampro.com reviewed it as one of the best cameras available. They even mentioned that it would give reconx a run for their money. I personally love my two moultrie i990 from a couple years ago but the new models had mixed reviews. The only place I've heard good things about covert is on this site.
I'm a Reconyx fan. We had one of them go under when the creek got out last month. After the creek go back in its banks went to get the camera. Not a thing wrong. Works just like it did when I closed the door on it. Flawlessly. Granted they are pricy and IMO they have awesome customer service.
I'm looking for something in the $180 range so if you guys have anymore I should check out just tell me. Still looking at the stealth cam but it doesn't hurt to have a few more choices. I would be interested in anything but wild game cameras because I've heard a lot of bad things about them.
I just bought one of these Primos: http://www.trailcampro.com/primosproofcam02review.aspx I don't even have batteries in it yet so no idea if I threw away money or not but it looks solid and a buddy of mine likes them. I'll post a report on it in a week or so. It was $120 with 12mp (not that that means much) but I thought it was a decent price.
Right now I'm the most interested in the covert extreme red 40. I like the stealth cam g42 but I would prefer not to have no glow or black flash. The thing with the covert is the video and audio is great and the night pictures look great too. I would also have the ability to check the camera position to make sure it's exactly where I want it.
Every Red 40 I ever owned took horrible day pics. Some so dark they were hard to make out. I have a Black 60 also but use it for video only and it works great and throws a lot of light.
