I'd go with the solcam if that's all he has to pick from

Has he gone and shot any of them? If you have a bow store near ya have him take a look at the used bows and shoot around to see what he likes (if they have used bows at the shop)

The Mathews Ultra 2 would be a good one, but $450 is way too much money for that bow. You can find 2-3 year old bows, in like new condition on AT for that price. Some would even have accessories on them as well.

I would go with the q2xl. My friend has a q2 his grandpa handed down to him and it still shoots great.

OP sorry about that. I'm just used to typing AT. Archery talk does have a great classifieds section so you might want to check it out before you decide. I just googled Mathews Ultra 2 for sale, and there is/were a couple listed on Archerytalk from June and July for $200 (with accessories), and $150 (bare bow?) just to give you an idea.

Also, does he know his draw length? Those Mathews would require a cam change to change draw length which will add to the cost more so than a bow that just uses mods to set draw length.

I agree with you. The people here are a lot nicer for the most part but AT has a bunch more people so it's 10 times easier to sell. Out of the 5 things I sold, 4 out of 5 sold on AT.
