I have the Bolt I used it once helping Trevor with his deer last fall and I had to get my own. Its not too big and the grip on it is really nice.

I have been looking at these as well this year, and haven't been able to decide which one I should get yet. This one seems like a good choice though. I was wondering how often you guys change blades? Like, do you change them every animal or something similar. I obviously know that the size of the animal matters and how much bone and stuff you hit. So, lets just say you use the blade to field dress your deer.

You can use the same blade multiple times. Ive only used it once but we field dressed, skinned, and quartered the deer and the blade was still sharp and good to go through another animal.

That is amazing! I just looked at them, and I think I know what one I am going to get. The Havalon Piranta Torch, it is a aluminum body construction. [IMG]

Piranha is the only one you need. An Elk and a Mule deer last year with one blade a piece. That sold me on them.

Is the piranta good enough to cut up a whole elk?

The best blade hands down is a benchmade. Ive dressed and skinned a ton of animals with mine its super sharp and the most durable blade ever. I love mine i have 4 but have been using the same one for hunting for 6 years now and its still as sharp as when it came out of the box if your willing to spend the money look at benchmade there great blades.

Appears the benchmade uses cpm s30v steel which is ultra durable and holds an edge extremely well. Quite a bit better than 440c stainless which is pretty standard.

That being said, you still have to sharpen them when they do get dull and it is harder to sharpen as well. If you aren't good at sharpening a knife, the havalons are a good investment because you never have to sharpen them and they are like surgical blades out of the package.

I can't wait to give my new piranta a try this year. If I don't like it, the benchmade will be on my short list if I don't just make one out of cpm s35vn or cpm s30v

I did my whole Elk with one. Another guy that was near camp last year cut up his bull with one. That is the only knife I'll carry this year.

If you go over on the Rokslide forum there are tons of guys that use havalon's on big game. The only thing I worry about with mine is taking a finger off:)
