I use a Canon Rebel XT (older model) that I've had for 7 years. I need to upgrade but I "need" a lot of stuff. Go to a shop, hold the different cameras and decide on one by how it feels in the hand and what it can do that you want.

Can't go wrong with any of the Canons.
I use to have the XT then upgraded to the T1i and gave the XT to my wife.
It finnally bit the dust and would cost more to repair the just get her a new one so we're looking as well.

Rutin, the T3i is a good quality camera to get started with. Look for combo sales with the standard 18-55mm lens and a 70-300mm lens. That sort of combo will get you everything needed for lots of different types of photography. A good place to look, in case you haven't started, is Craigslist. Lots of people seem to buy the entry level DSLR combos, then they sit on the shelf for a year, and end up getting posted for sale. You can find some steals that way.

I'm in the same boat as Iowa Veteran and "need" to upgrade, but there again that "need" is more of a "want" just so I can continue to expand my capabilities. All in due time I suppose.

I've been very close to purchasing a T3i!!! Always have moments where I wished I had a camera with me.
