i am looking for a "new" used bow. I was looking at the 2009 Hoyt Alphamax. They have a 32 and 35. what is the benefit / drawbacks to the different Axle to Axle? which of the the hoyt lines would be my best choice. i do mostly whitetail hunting from tree stand, not a lot of 3D shoot but i have shot a few tournaments. I am pretty loyal to the Hoyt brand so if you are a Mathews fan and want me to convert don't bet on it. I currently shoot a Lazertec 2006 model @ 70lbs and 29" draw. HHA sight, whisker biscuit rest. Also, what sight, stabilizer, rest combo's are good for these bow. Are there any Cam / Limbs i should avoid. Looking to spend around $700 with everything but trying to get a bow that has everything all hooked up. i am not too thrilled with my sight and rest combo. groups are not where they should be. i used to shoot an older Hoyt rapter and was getting more consistant groups so operator head space and timing (military for shooter's error). should not be any worse than my older bow. A little input on a new purchase would be helpful, especially from the Hoyt brotherhood.
I have the 32" Alphamax. I couldn't ask for more in a bow, it's deadly quiet, quick, and holds (in my hands) so naturally. I also shoot 3D and Indoor leagues, while I haven't shot indoors with it yet, it gobbled up the 3d course pretty well! I had plans to get the 35" for my indoor league but the economy may wreck that plan for this year. If I was buying a bow primarily for hunting, it would be the 32" hands down. Now I'll tell ya what I did learn about Brand Loyalty: I started with a Hoyt, went to Bowtech and shot that for 3 years..it was, and is, a great bow. But when I wanted to upgrade I found little help for being Brand Loyal. I quickly learned it's better to be "Shop" loyal. Those are the guys who are gonna help you. Repeat business, representing them at shoots and shows, this is where the loyalty comes in. Any of the 3-4, top of the line manufacturers put out something that will fit your liking. The competition is that good, amongst them.
I have a Hoyt Alphamax 35. I don't shoot out of a treestand so the size is not an issue to me. I think the 35 is a more forgiving bow, but I think it would be wise for you to shoot them both before deciding. The 35 suits me better than the 32, but it's a matter of what feels best to me.
Listening to you guys means a lot to me. I'm upgrading next year, and I've made up my mind, the Alphamax is where I'm headed. I'll test both before I make my selection.
Undoubetdly, you can't have more unbiased advice than from someone who represents another bow manufacturer other than the one you asked about... Of all their bows I've shot, the AlphaMax is far and away the best they've put out recently.
I also have the AM 35. Reason for the 35 though is because I'm 6'7 with a 32" draw. Absolutely love it, though it is the only bow I've ever known.
