No pics, too lazy to dig em out of the safe right now:

I have a WW II vintage Remington Rand .45 that my dad picked up in Vietnam from an Army officer that was no longer requiring it. It's about 80% condition, most of the park is still solid - sights are solid, nice weapon. When I was a kid I actually shot myself in the leg with it...dad left it loaded with a 3rd grader in the house who was too stupid to leave a gun alone. Got a scar in my left leg from it still - I was VERY lucky. I keep all my guns in a safe or locked up to prevent the same ever happening with my kids.

Springfield Armory Officers Model - nothing sexy did some Wilson Combat upgrades to it. Going to give it a full go through soon since I have two of them, one that was my dad's but is still in AZ with mom. I am going to re-finish it in a rust blue and do some polishing and a trigger upgrade to smooth things out. It was my primary carry weapon for a long time. Used to have wear holes in all my shirts from it since it was always with me. Great little pistol.

I gun smith and intend to branch out into 1911's once I master the current platforms I am working on. There are some 80% receivers you can buy w/o and FFL and with a mill and some basic smithing skill can make into a functioning weapon.

I picked this 1 up when they 1st came out. Its a sweet gun but it can be a little "bucky" if u dont know what to expect when pulling the trigger.

I have two Springfield 1911's, one in 45 cal and one in 9mm.

My late father bought these as kits direct from Springfield when he was a dealer years ago. I'm not going to disclose what he paid but they were practically giving them away. ;)

The 45 (top) likes 230gr. Federal Hydra-Shok's and the 9mm (bottom) shoots Hornady Custom 115gr. XTP's very well.

I have a Glock Model 21 45 ACP which I LOVE, however if I actually carried it alot, I'd opt for a small block gun for concealment.

    Interesting thread, much to consider.

Scott, I sacrificed my XD-40 for a Sig Sauer XO 1911. Do it and don't ever look back. A 1911 with a good, crisp clean trigger will blow that XD right out of the water.

GENERALLY speaking, a 1911 is a 1911. The only real difference is sights and tolerances. Springfield makes a very good 1911, and the Range Officer is a very sweet shooter. Sig Sauer and Kimber are also very sweet, but pricey. From there we get into the custom builders, Dan Wesson, Les Baer, Nighthawk and a couple others. But those are STUPID expensive.

There are less expensive ones out there and you can find one for 6 bills or less, especially a GI model. I'm not a fan of those though, but mostly because of the sights. They aren't adjustable and I just can't see them. For me, the sights and trigger are the 2 biggest concerns. The sights have to be bright, like a 3 dot sight or even night sights. And the trigger has to be clean and crisp w/out a ton of take up in it.

Kimber Pro Carry CDP II for me. I liked the slightly shorter barrel for easier carry, without giving up any of the grip.

Don't personally own a 1911. I have the SA .40 XD and the SA .45 XD w/tac lights and hi-cap mags.

So lets say I am going to buy a .45 soon, which should I buy? I would like to keep it around under $600. I really like the looks of mobow's Sig, so something similar in looks is a plus.

Help me spend some money :D

I have no idea how much the springfield arms XD's are, but you can't go wrong with either one. I got both of mine at conference raffles. Both the .40 and .45 are very smooth. Good luck with your shopping!

Unless it's either stolen, or a used giveaway, you'll most likely not find a Sig under $600. Especially in a .45. Unless you want a 1911 (Springfield Armory GI45, Rock River, etc), your best option is an XD45 when buying new. If you go used, you may be able to include a well used Glock or XD.

Whatever you buy, I would highly recommend going to a store with a range and rent different models. Some models don't fit you as well as you might think.

    I wasn't expecting a Sig lol, I'm going for a Cadillac and not a Ferrari :D
I will probably go by a range sometime this summer, I was just wanting to get an idea of what to look for before I go. Thanks for the suggestions
