Another one for the night:p This post was prompted by my reading of some environmental issues pertaining to our current gas play in the area. How many of you live in the same area you were born and raised? What made you stay? For those of you that moved, what was the primary factor? If you had the choice to live ANYWHERE in the U.S. would you still pick where you live? That's all:D
I currently live 2.5 hours from where I was raised, I'm not sure if that classifies as "moving away" or not. But the primary factor for me not living in my hometown in there are no good jobs in the environmental industry there. And if I had a choice to live anywhere in the US, it would more than likely be Colorado Springs. Why? Because I love all the outdoor opportunities in Colorado. I've been considering transferring to Denver for awhile now. I've always wanted to move away from Louisiana. How will I know that I won't love living elsewhere, if I never try to live elsewhere?
I live fives miles from the house I grew up in. I've always had a job close to home and lots of family still around me. But I may be moving closer to my property in the near future. The old neighborhood just ain't as safe as it used to be. Time to head for the country, kinda like it used to be around here.
My father was in the Marine Corps, so I wasn't "born and raised" anywhere as I have lived from Hawaii to Virginia. However, I do consider Northern Virginia as my home turf as I have lived in different parts of Northern Virginia for 25 of my 35 years on this earth. I would move from this place in an instant. I am hoping my wife's dream of becomming a college basketball coach becomes a reality and that we move to southern Virginia, North Carolina, or somewhere else where the pace of life feels slower than this crowded hell hole of Northern Virginia.
Lived in 2 houses all my life. When we moved, it was only down the road. I will be moving to our farm in September, but still only about 20 minutes from where I live now. I've been offered a job the last 2 years across the river in Missouri, but have turned it down for different reasons. I can't really see myself leaving this area....it's home.
I live 8 miles from where I was was raised. I lived in St Louis for 2 years in the mid 90's and city life isn't for me.
I was born in Ft. Mead, MD but we moved to Illinois before I was one. I currently live 24 miles from where I grew up and have no intention on leaving the area. We have some great Deer hunting and generations of family and friends nearby.
I live with in 15 miles of my High School. When I was 19 I moved out west and I would still probably still be there if my Grandfather lived longer. My dad asked me to come back and help with the family business.I did and now this is life as I know it.
Home is in the same hometown I grew up in. Family has owned business around here for 44 years and we have deep roots here. But, for 6 months of the year, I live 500 miles north. So, I have no idea if I would leave here if I had to be here all the time.
Cool Idea of a thread Matt!! I do. The house I own now Is the house I grew up In. I bought the house and the milk hauling business from my parents when they got divorced. When my parents divorced they decided to sell everything. The milk hauling business and the house had to go as one. I didn't want to buy the milk hauling business but I didn't want anyone buying the house I grew up In. That's why I'm living where I am doing what I do for a living. Under different circumstances I would've been out of this state long ago. I'd definitely be out west living In the mountains or In Alaska somewhere.
I am in Stillwater for college but still only about forty-five minutes from the house I grew up. I never plan on leaving Oklahoma and with my degree I will probably never have too.
I was born and raised in Connecticut. In my early 20s wanderlust took me to Florida where I lived for 10 years. Wanderlust jumped into my life again and I headed to Houston Texas. From there I moved to my place in the country 6 years ago. I never had a good reason to move however I never had a good reason to stay until now. I always wonder whats over the next hill or around the next bend. I'll wander some more before I'm done,(God willing), but I'll always come home now.
I live 35 mintues from where I grew up. Out of college I had no desire to leave the area. Not sure why. After a few years out we decided to move about 2 hrs away. That didn't work, she hated it. (I didn't mind at all) I would LOVE to move out west. But unfortunately that ain't happening, she couldn't manage 2 hrs from home, let alone across the country.
I'm in the same situation as Scott. I've lived in 3 houses the 21 years I've been here, and all 3 of them were within a mile of each other. Where I live once I graduate school here in a little bit strongly depends on what the possibility of finding a job here. If I can't find a job here, I am definitely considering moving out west to Colorado possibly.
Both me and the wife have never left our home town - even attended College here. We grew up 5 blocks from each other - but never actually met until highschool. Both our Dad's have large families here and that means everything to us - Family is the reason we will never leave. I love to travel and experience new areas - but travel also reminds me how much I love home. And now with raising our own kids...having both sets of grandparents, and each of our brothers & sisters only minutes away is a true blessing...WE ARE NEVER BORED!
im about 3 1/2 hrs north from where i was born, came back for a job was raised 8 hrs north of here would love to set up shop in northern WI out in the woods with a long dirt rd so i can see who's coming
I have lived in the same house my whole life (20yrs). I never moved because I didnt want to go away for college and so I stayed and went to the local community college. I would live in North Alabama if I could live anywhere. I have a ton of family up there and we go up for reunions every two years. I love it up there!!
I grew up in the southeastern part of MI. I now live on the western side of MI's LP. I could never go back to where I grew up. I live in MI's second biggest city and enjoy all the good things a big city has to offer, yet I only need to travel minutes to some of my favorite hunting and fishing spots. There are numerous rivers and countless lakes I can fish within 2 hours of my doorstep. While Grand Rapids is considered a big city with over 500,000 people, it doesn't have many of the problems big cities do (traffic, crime, etc). At this point in my life, I do not know of a place I would rather live and raise a family.
