Just curious on what you guys will be set up on for the next week?? Trying to decide between bedding, food, water and transition. I probably will wait for the transition/travel corridor until after this week is done with. I personally have not seen a deer this year Cooled down for now so i will probably make Sat or Sun an all day sit
I'm gonna hit the outside of a bedding area saw a ton of deer come out the other day and will be there again nows that time of year where you get them big boys checking the beds
To be honest, I have no clue I'm leaving here in a couple hours to go hunting at a family member's property that I've only been to once for turkey and no clue where the deer run. The following weekend I'm heading north to a small woods that I've never seen so I will have to make my action plan when I get there. Apparently there's an abundance of deer up there and it's never been hunted so I'm pretty hopeful for that spot. However, at my house, I hunt back off travel paths. My little woods is mostly pass through anyways with only 1 or 2 small bedding areas.
I believe given my situation this year, I'm just going to concentrate most of my efforts around this 20 acre or so doe bedding area (actually about 10 of it I'll really his). I know one of the does was starting early last week as an 8 was hot on her heels for two days. The others in the group are still traveling together with their fawns, but it could happen anytime, and I really think this is my only/best chance on the property.
I'll be setup at a conference center in San Francisco for the next week. I get tomorrow, thats it, and then my 2011 archery season is pretty much done for. Good luck to everyone going out next week and the week after. This weather, at least here in PA is absolutely perfect right now.
Im leaving here tom and heading for ks. Never been to the public land ill be hunting but pretty much all of my hunting will be focused on funnels.
I'm hoping to get my buddy and I setup along a transition line from Oak to thick pines for tomorrow morning. There's "supposed" to be a trail or trails running through there and I know they bed all through the pines - at that's what my father says from hunting that area before. We'll see I guess - I've not hunted this exact spot before but I know how the deer run in the general area. I was gonna try to make a scent trail with some boot pads about 400-500 yards along the transition but with some light rain and snow expected tomorrow i'm unsure and may just use some doe-p in a scent bomb. I'm just excited for the cold weather (high of 38) and snow tomorrow!!
I'll be in stand 5 outta the next 9 days. Wisconsin weather is going to relatively nice in that span. We are filming too -- so hopefully I have some footage to share soon. Good luck everyone! :D
Start concentrating on the does.... It is starting to heat up.. Where you find the does you will find the boys!.. Good luck,
