    Hello,

I am from VT. I am not one of the "let's legalize gay marriage" people by the way. But that's a whole other discussion. Anyway, I want to take my son on a bowhunt with me. He would be an observer of course. The most important thing would be for him to see plenty of deer. I took him out with me once last year in VT and he got bored due to not seeing deer. I saw 1 all bow season by the way. I was thinking about Steuben County NY or the Delaware Water gap in PA. Not sure. Any advice would be great. MH

Love that you opened up the greeting with such a conversation starter.

I'm from Illinois so I can't help much. But welcome to the site.

Some of these other yahoo's are from PA and NY.. so they'll better assist you. Give it a little time.. someone will help out.

How about a trip to Texas? I can't think of anywhere else where you are guaranteed to see a pile of deer everyday. Maybe next winter when you have 2ft of snow, you could spend a week in balmy south texas?

Very hit and miss here in NY. I dont think there is anywhere where you can just go plop down and see 30-40 deer a night. You are always going to have to hunt them. Stuben county is quite similar to Wyoming County (where I am) if anything I think their deer density is a little bit higher. Out of state rates are not bad at all here. I would go door knocking and look for private land. Everything thats public around here is usually just planted pines from restoration projects back in the 50's, and is pretty much hit or miss. Good luck though, hope your boy likes it!

BTW, are all the stories I hear about "those vermonters" true?? :d :busted:

Welcome! Check w/your state about what lands you can hunt and go out now scouting them. Take your boy with you and look for some sheds. If you find one, bonus, and that should hook him. It takes time out in the woods to see deer, time of yr, time of day, food/water accessibility and of course bedding. I myself like to hunt corridors leading to/from food sources. Check around where your at and go knock on some doors to access private land. Take your boy w/you and dress accordingly. Don't look like a slouch, or it isn't going to happen. Good luck and let us know what comes of it.
