Does anyone know where I can send a jaw bone to be scientifically aged?

The name of the procedure has escaped me.

You can send the jaw bone to me along with $50. I will scientifically cross cut a tooth and age him for you while drinking a beer. I don't have a white lab coat... but I do have a white camo coat I could stick a name tag on to make it kind of official. Gonna cost you another $50 dollars to get them back though so you can have it done right !! :)

Seriously... check with your Game & Fish Department. The should be able to point you in the right direction.

I know a couple guys from Texas that have it done. They are really big on managing their property. I will find out where they send them.

Most say your DNR should do it.

    One guy uses...
www.deerage.com ( which is Wildlife Analytical Labs ). He said he paid $20 for nonrush/ $50 for priority He didn't say how long a go he used them so no idea if prices are current.

Honestly, I'd trust my taxi as much as anyone, when it comes to jawbone aging. He'll reference the models and do a micrometer test that's based on deer from this area (if that's where the buck came from).

Now.....if you're talking someone to take a tooth and do the cross-section.......I'd call my NCWRC biologist. He's extremely helpful. And, he'd surely point me (or you) in the right direction.

This would be some helpful information, we still have the jaw from the infamous freakdaddy and we would also like to know the age of him.

I had a jawbone done by the state wildlife department here in Ky several years ago.It was free and they even gave me a hat. This was cross section analysis.

Check with your DNR,they should be able to get it done for you.

FTR.....jawbone aging and tooth cross sections are two totally different methods.

Yeah I am looking for the cross section ageing... Not just someone looking at tooth wear.

Last time I had regular aging done by tooth wear I was told the buck was anywhere from 3.5-5.5 years old, with the most likely age being 4.5. I want to know for sure this time.

As requested by the Minnesota DNR we send a tooth In to the University of Minnesota and they age our bear. Some of their findings are ridiculous. I don't have much faith In anyone when It comes to aging teeth. I don't know a thing about the jawbone stuff though. Looking forward to hearing how you go about It.
