My dad is currently hunting down in Texas for hogs and the guys he is with are telling him he can't kill one with the bow because of the thick plate in the shoulder. Well I know that's not true because we have killed them with bows before in Florida but just out of curiosity where are you placing your arrows when you shoot them? Hog vitals are further forward than deer so best shot I've found is behind the front leg on a quartering away hog which puts the broad head in between the front legs where the lungs and heart are.
Exit in the front side of arm pit if quartering away and backside of armpit if quartering towards Sent from my Moto G (4) using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Yep Just as stated, vitals are a bit forward compared to a deer . I try to on a straight side shot, no angle, to wait until the entry leg is forward and put the arrow right in its arm pit. I also try to catch the far side leg inline with the arrow so as to damage that far side leg if not bust out its shoulder. This prevents the pig from running fast and making it to 75 yards. Most I do this way are 20-40 yard retrieves. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
This right here. I've also busted them in the plate. But It it takes a heavy arrow & sharp broadhead. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Thanks everyone for the input it's always good to know that shot your taking is going to be most lethal and ethical. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Boars over 150lbs I'll try to slip the arrow behind the shield with a little more extreme quartering away shot. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Shoulder to head quartered away works wonders. Can't tell me you can't take a hog with a bow. Sliced through four ribs like butter. This guy ran about 20 yards, did a death spiral, and dropped. It was over in seconds.
This guy was 250lb and ran about 15yds. Hard quartering away with 65# Prime Rival, BE 5mm Rampage arrows and Wasp 2 blade Jak-knife BH. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
