I am new to bowhunting and new to big game hunting in general. I've hunted for upland birds and waterfowl but that was a couple years back. At this point I have a bow, I try to shoot several times a week, and I plan on signing up for some lessons (any recommendations around Huntersville, NC?).
Aside from working on my archery skills, what should I be doing at this point in the year to prepare for the 2015 archery whitetail season?
Like I said I'm pretty new to hunting and don't have any friends or family who hunt so any help would be very helpful!

Do you have access to land to hunt? First step.

Not in the area where I live. My parents have some farm land down in North Florida that has deer on it. I'll probably head there once or twice to hunt this year. Nothing in my area though. I was planning to try and hunt public land as much as I could. Not sure if that's realistic in the Carolinas though. Is there a way to find good places other than driving around knocking on doors?
