Illinois is a lost cause. It's been 48th in job creation. Forbes gave it #1 in a 'worst debt rating'.... beating even CA. Now they just jacked up our income tax by 66%. A 46% increase in business tax. Now "IL businesses will pay the highest combined national-local corporate tax rate in the industrialized world." Oh, and they increased spending while they were at it... Way to go Gov Quinn and cronie democrats. As if our excessive fees for everything, stupid gun laws, lack of public land, boring landscape and crummy weather wasn't enough motivation to leave already. grrr....
Utah or Kentucky ...... The dems are ruining this country...check that, they have already ruined it...
What is your goal? Low taxation? Public hunting land? Good job market? Weather? I know you are going to say yes to it all but what is the primary goal?
I hear ya Christine. I'm shocked the cigarette tax didn't go through also. Outside of big whitetails (that I can't kill LOL) there are few reasons to step foot in this state.
We can transfer there for work and the Wife's Sister is in Houston. I am thinking the cost of a lease will far outweigh the Income taxes and shady Left Wing Cronies. Plus the Gun laws are much more shooter friendly
Looking for the same info as planning to move in the next year or two. Sadly, now that Dayton is governor here, I'm afraid we won't be that far behind IL...
I agree. I'm not a fan of either party, but, the dems/liberals have destroyed this Country from the top down. America is no longer a place, anymore, it's a "theory"...The people of the Mid-West seem to be victim of political fear-mongering. I hate to see that crap. I've said it before; Patriots are the new "terrorists" and the Constitution is the new anarchists playbook ! With that said, nowhere can be as bad as NJ. If I had to choose from the States you've listed, I would also choose Kentucky.
10.55 here in some places in Kansas, more than double yours. To top it off were one of the 35 states that pay yearly property Taxes. Food is also Taxed here. Oh, 93% of the seats in this state are held by Republicans, you can have em!
I hate to say you're right. Once I'm done with college there is a good chance i'll be moving out of MN.
10.55 Sales tax???? I would lover to feel for you but we have 11% in Paletine and 10% is the norm for Cook Co. Here is a great link showing the whole country and common taxed rates for everyday good. http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Taxes/best-and-worst-taxes-by-state.aspx We have a yearly property tax, 5% income tax, 6.25-11% sales tax (based on town and county), the highest gas prices generally and some of the highest out of state deer hunting licenses
We have created an out of control, monster of a government in many states. The vultures reap the spoils of the inefficiency and backdoor deals, then pass on the costs to the taxpayers. It sickens me and is downright un-American. If I didn't have kids and a family I would do this......
Heck, I'm tempted to do that. One more year and the kid's out of the house. The wife and I are looking for places to move to now. I'm debating the SW or the SE parts of the US. Can't stand cold, snow, ice.
xxForce--I hope you and your wife find the place of your dreams. Also, congrats on working hard to get back into shape. Brett
Thanks, Brett. Last year was a challenge and it's made us realize a few things. Simplification being one. Hope all is well with you and things are going your way in things you have occurring now too. Hopefully work's smoothing out a bit for ya. -Shawn
Like Raceway already pointed out... we pay out the nose for sales tax. We pay tax on food. On prescription drugs. Pay extra taxes to watch a movie or go out to eat. Even our cell phones bills get a 21% tax rate. We're like 6th highest in the nation for property taxes (as a percentage of property value). 4th in the nation if you go by income level. There isn't anything here that doesn't have taxes or fees (when they don't want to call them taxes). And the point is that we've already pretty much run the businesses out. Tax payers who can.... are moving away. No company in it's right mind is looking to come here. This will excerbate the problem of taxpayers leaving. Indiana and WI are already salivating at the exodus of FIBs to thier state. The state is bumping spending by 17% in the next four years. Not cutting spending! The state cannot pay it's current bills. It currently has a 13 Billion dollar deficit and over 200 Billion in un-funded liabilities. .....yeah..... it's a sore subject for me.
...anyhoo... Someplace that has more outdoor opportunities would be ideal. Hunting.. bowfishing.. My mom being in Chicagoland is what keeps me here in IL. She likes to be able to call me up there on moment's notice. (well a 2.5 hour notice anyhow) She likes Kentucky so I might be able to lure her down there. Maybe. NE to Central MO would be almost close enough if she stayed in Chicago. (I'd just have to drive a lot faster... heh) Utah would be a tough sell for her... but my dad lives there and always tells me how awesome it is. Texas because it has some giant fish to chase... and wild boar and zillions of those little rabbits. The heck with deer. I hear NC is pretty nice too... but I've never been there. I had a pretty good time when I lived in North Dakota but I'm quite sure I'd be all alone if I went there.
