Pretty partial to my home state of KS, but I also love NM, CO, and WY. I have lived in and hunted/fished them all. If I had to pick just one.... It'd be KS

Anywhere other than the south or midwest:D

In all seriousness, I would say Montana or Idaho.

If you ever had a blue grouse (I believe was the species) you'd forget all about Ruffed Grouse.

I'd vote for Montana, Idaho, or Washington State, any room for this flatlander there Backcountry?

I am very seriously looking at moving to Wyoming, Idaho or Utah. Which one of those is better? And by better I mean accessibility of hunting land, ability to draw tags and a tolerable success rate. Anybody?

You don't want to come to Michigan. The only wild game here are the moquitoes and the weather is always damp and rainy. There used to be deer, but they all migrated to Ohio. And the fish have all been killed by the zebra mussels.

I think Wyoming is the best for drawing and success rate. I've drawn 2 antelope tags with only 2 points each time as a nonresident in a zone with lots of record book goats.

Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho all seem like great hunting states. As well as fishing.

Sounds like a deal, but I'm sure hunting whitetails in the hill is a lot different than here. Give me a year and I'll stomp the hills with ya!

Wyoming sucks, everyone should stay as far away from here as possible... there is NOTHING to hunt, no antelope, whitetails, mulies, elk, bears, lions, sheep, moose, goats, wolves, coyotes, fox, bobcats, pheasants, chukars, huns, sage grouse, sharptails, blue grouse, ruff grouse, spruce grouse, ducks, geese or even prairie dogs... EVERYTHING lives in the surrounding states. There is zero fishing of any type, access is HORRID and you can't draw tags for anything. Definitely... go to Montana, Idaho or Colorado.

Oh yeah and our gun laws suck, it's always -50, we don't sell beer, the food is terrible, we have super high taxes and our state is run by a bunch of flaming liberals.

    STAY AWAY FROM HERE!!!!

Spent the last three years traveling around the country and studying the game seasons in the states I was not in. Finally made the decision to move to SC for the long seasons, variety of game animals that I like to hunt, the fishing (salt and fresh access) and the climate made it an easy choice. Not to speak of the deal there are on houses in the Charleston area right now.

I went from Maine to California and then into the upper mid west in those three years and while no place has everything, SC had the most IMO.

Wyoming or Idaho out of your choices Christine. They are much easier states to draw in as residents....but if people are moving out west hoping to draw big ticket animals as a resident (Mtn Goat, Sheep, Moose) good luck. Even the residents are looking at anywhere from 10-30 years for a tag in many cases.

I've researched this question a lot. I don't plan to be in a serious relationship when I get my degree....I plan to apply for a residency out west to test out living there for a year before making the all in plunge. I'd LOVE the Anchorage residency if I can get it.

If I HAD to put money on a state for me to live in after graduation.. It would be Alaska, New Mexico, or Wyoming...in that order.

I think Field and Stream did an article on this last year, maybe two years ago. I'll try finding it
