With the season less than a month away for some, about a month for others, where is the buck you are after? Do you have him pinned down on a routine? Going in on a hunch? Know where he's bedding? Feeding? Do you even care?:p
Bobby, I did some pretty heavy glassing and light scouting about 3 weeks to a month ago In the woods I always hunt. I wasn't very happy with what I saw. But then again all of the ag land on the property I hunt Is corn this year. I'm guessing a good buck or 2 might be spending allot of their time In there. I also did some scouting on some state land across from my house. I did find one decent looking track but I don't think he's bedding anywhere In the state land that I'd like to hunt. My take Is that he's bedding across the road about an 1/8th mile away, that's his home I believe. By the time he makes his way to the state land which Isn't very often I'd bet It's the middle of the night.
Interesting reply Jeff. So what you are saying is you are going off a hunch and past experience? Steve, I know what you are saying. Sometimes access is a killer.
Tied up behind the barn next to my treestand been feeding him all year. Just kidding I hope what I seen last year is still alive and were I left him, dang those slippery ones.
This is funny, I just got off the phone discussing this sort of thing with my Dad. My response to him asking where are the big bucks at right now...."I don't know, nor do I care". The season isn't in today, so where they are doesn't matter to me.
Sounds like most have the "I'll wait and see" mentality. That's funny to me. Would still like to hear from some of the Big Buck Slayers here.:D
I wasn't joking when I said the buck I want to kill is currently bedding and feeding on my neighbors land (with two other nice bucks). This is confirmed by cameras and glassing. But, depending on when a bowhunter's season starts or when they plan on doing most of their hunting...it may not matter where their big buck is right NOW. Back in June and early July the same buck I want to kill was feeding on the land I hunt. Things change. During the Fall this same buck's area will expand so he will be doing things he doesn't do right now. I really don't care what a buck is doing today but I sure will this Fall when I am trying to kill him. Do you know where your big buck is?
That is a legitimate answer Cooter. I have nowhere to glass for bucks. (No Ag fields) I have to work off after season scouting info, previous season sightings, and knowing where they bedded/fed for the last 2 or 3 seasons. These things do not change a lot from season to season with Mature bucks. jmho All that being said, I have a good idea where he is at right now, and he won't vary much other than hitting the acorns where I hunt. (Until the rut, when all bets are off on where he will be.)
probably walking right by my buddies stand But seriously, i know the general location of where he is bedding at. but no idea of his routine, tho it probably involves avoiding my stands.
Not exactly positive where he's bedding, but have seen what direction he comes from and know where he ends up, so that helps.:D This will be the second year for me hunting my property and we have waaaaay more acorns than last year so some things may change this year. But I hope to have a better idea where I need to be this season. I was close last year a couple of times, and I took notes.
Don't care where he is right now...but pretty sure sometime between Oct 26th and Nov 16th he'll be within 30 yards of me...hopefully broadside or slightly quartering away...
