Your for sure long term plan should be building points in AZ.,NV, and CO. for an awesome unit. It may take 8-12 years but well worth it.

I may be mistaken but I believe the AZ and NV elk are a different kind than the Colorado/wyoming/Montana elk?

Not sure what Iowa's system is like. I know certain units in Colorado take years to draw...Arizona will take several years.

There are three kinds of elk. You have Tule elk they are in California, Roosevelt elk they are on the west coast, then you have rocky mountain elk which are the most common. They are in all western states. AZ and Nevada are the same elk in Montana, Utah, Wyoming. Oregon, Washington, California have rocky mountain elk also.

Utah as some trophy elk areas also. It also takes a few years to draw a tag.

Correct. Tule are in Ca. only, Roosevelt in Ca. and Oregon.

True but the real monster bulls/mulies are taken from these high point draw units. My buddie took 10 years to build points in AZ. and His bowhunt lasted 110 minutes this year for a 330 bull self guided. A like comparison would be to wait 7 years@White mountain Apache reservation and stroke a check for $18k to hunt just over the wire from this public high point draw unit for free. In Co. You can build points and still buy an otc tag each year without affected your point total. The otc areas rarely produce anything beyond raghorns but still fun.

There are no decent elk in utah. None.
Only rattlesnakes, endless desert and polygamists.

The reason Utah has an 80 mph speed limit is so all the out-of-staters can get out of this boring state as quickly as possible. :D
