The last few months I have been thinking about picking up a traditional bow to add another dimension to my hunting. I don't have any experience with traditional bows and don't really know anyone that does so I thought I start here. I'm sure this sounds like a silly question but here goes....What is the best way to get started in traditionals?

Go and buy a light weight bow (recurve or longbow). Pick up something In that 40 to 45 pound range and at least 62 Inches long. You can pick up some decent bows fairly cheap, 100 to 150 bucks or so. If you don't like them your not out too much then. Reason I say pick up a low draw weight bow Is It's much easier to learn how to shoot them correctly. Once you get that down you can always go up In draw weight with a different bow If It's what you want to do.

Great advice Steve, ya just gotta do it, get a bow, some arrows and start shooting, you will be surprised how much fun it is! This is the best time of year to start, that way you have all summer to shoot! Don't over bow your self and do over think it, just shoot, get your anchor point rock solid and things just pull together from there!

Don't know what part of Nebraska you're from but finding someone knowledgable is still the very best thing to do.. I know a few guys along the South East side of the State.

Steve and Joe have nailed it , thats kinda what i did . But i did not get a cheap bow , i new i wanted to shoot trad , so i got myself a Longbow made . I had arrows and everything else supplied and then practiced and practiced some more . Eventually i sold my Compound bow , no regrets at all . Trad shooting is so much fun and you definately came to the right place for advice , the guys on here will help you every step of the way .

Give me the names of a couple towns close to you and I'll see who I can find for you.

There's a very large archery club South of Beatrice called Big Indian that holds a very good shoot. Maybe you've heard of it. Perhaps we can meet there sometime and shoot together..

I need to add that I'm just across the bridge from Brownville.

I can arrange access to over 100 Traditional bows you can shoot any or all of them. Longbows, recurves, selfbows... different length bows and different poundages.

There are several experienced Traditional archers to answer any question you might have.

I know this is about a 2 hour drive for you but there is no cost to you. This is available to any and all who have an interest in shooting a Traditional bow.
