Dang what a buck,,, look at the killer brows on that stud. I have seen through a spotting scope first hand how some bucks react to cameras. I watched a 140 class just stare at it, and when it flashed he crapped his britches, jumped back stared at it for a long time, he walked by it briskly again, it flashed and he high tailed it out of there. All i got was his rear haunch on a junk wildview :bash: But i have pics of nice bucks looking at the cam and even after a flash they come closer for the next two pics. Like said, its personality differences in the individuals.

Nice buck Dan. I don't have an answer, but was just wondering, are there any other reasons you believe this deer is staying on your property? Hope you get him.

Nice buck. So, several people here have mentioned not putting up cameras where you intend to hunt. Then what's the point of putting up the cameras? If you do put up cameras where you don't hunt, where do you put your cameras up. I thought the point was to see what's in your hunting area.

I won't put them up where I have a stand up. I've watched deer skirt these camera's all to often and there fairly jumpy also when they see that camera. The only reason I have a camera up Is to get a rough Idea of what I possibly have for nice bucks In my woods. There allot of fun to put over a scrape being the bucks don't seem to mind them nearly as much then being there head's are a little screwed up.

If he's still alive I bet hes not to far .. That's one very camera aware buck, from the looks of his demeanor he's not liking what he's seeing or smelling. Great buck, love the browse, nice mess on the right side, big body brute.

I've never left a camera up during season because its too much a risk here both on the public land I hunt and private because other hunters have access on both and no matter what tresspassing happens way too much. So for the few years I have been using IR's by cudde b back and Bushnell, I have only ran them from June till August, then I pull them. Like Jeff talks about, I pretty much use mine to inventory a general area, say at a summer water hole were deer are forced to congregate until we get our Sept rains..

Bucks definatley spook from my IRs some worse than others. Bears dont seem to care much nor do elk and moose. I got about 1500 pix last summer and had more pix of a certain mature buck than I EVER have ... multiples. Last summer was the first time in 3 seasons of using my cameras that I made myself NOT CHECK them but 1 time per month. Batteries had no problems making it in my bushnells, my cudde back sucked the life out of the batteries.

I doubt I would ever put a camera up right under one of my stand sites.. rolling the dice imo on spooking an old buck. Again I use them on food sources and water during the summer velvet months. By the time I can hunt those deer, the daylight has cut back a full hour and those big bucks are much fruther back in the cover near their daytime bedding. Thats where I hunt and have never put a camera up during hunting season.

Hey thanks GMMAT, I appreciate the clarification. I thought you put them where you hunt. Now if I invest in a camera, at least I'll know where not to put them.

Another possibility could be a faint trace of human scent could be coming out of the camera that the buck just won't put up with for long.
I have seen evidence of bucks not using an area even at night because of just a "little" scent.
C'mon, if there was something you didn't like the smell of would you stick around?
Just a thought. You never know when a big buck has been ticked. That is why they call it hunting.
    I love it.
Find him, shoot him this season, then show us!

I did my part of the deal by joining this awesome forum, Dan, you do your part?
