They were happy because they were Godly.....come on. They had to act happy because anything else would have drawn attention to some ignorant individuals that patrolled the deep south back then. They also acted happy because they realized there was virtually no freaking way out of their current situation of "working for farmers", living without the ability to vote, and on and on. I guess they gave up mentally and became godly and it was all joyous according to Mr America Phil Robertson.

Believe it or not, many do find happiness when they find God.

Phil also stated he never saw a black person mistreated.

No one is defending the situations that blacks were in , in those days. Even phil.

All he can do is comment on what he saw. Considering he worked hand in hand with them in those days, when most whites were segregated from them, he probably saw alot more than most.

Well put yourself in the shoes of a black man who lived in those days, and worked in the fields in LA. One who Phil did not work with and maybe was not so "happy happy happy". Phil is not a mean person, not did he mean any ill will imo.

It would be like a Roman General stating "All the Christians I knew where happy happy happy that were prisoners" When majority of them were being persecuted for their beliefs, murdered and denied basic human rights.

It comes across to some as "The blacks around me were happy" "Why the others were so mad is beyond me"

Again, he can only comment on what he saw.

Herein is your problem.... and it lies where you are so far removed form happiness outside of circumstances and IN the peace that passes understanding that is given by The Holy Spirit by the knowledge of Jesus.....that is why tribulation is always spiritually healthy for a people ..... we seek happiness ...in America it is in our possessions all too often because we are sooooo rich.... those old slaves put out some of the most amazing, spiritually inspired music lyrics ...because they WERE happy in the Lord and had to seek Him as they had much less than most and they found TRUE happiness in the ONLY place it lies forever ...that is in the Lord Jesus Christ...

Yep, my daughter goes to a Catholic School all girls. Our church is Lutheran(ELCA) pretty liberal.

This debate and thread reminds me of public education faculty meetings. An idea is presented for debate/possible change. A discussion ensues for hours only to end right back where it started with no change, haha:D

    Merry Christmas everyone!

Some of my favorite people in the world are gay ... human services is full of them ... They know what I believe and love me anyway ....I know what they believe and love them anyway....I had a sister that was full blow lesbian...she gave her life to Christ and she is no longer gay ....I have know several more like that ...some married with children now... it is still a sin issue ... we ALL sin .... one of yours maybe pornography, one of mine might be my tongue...we fight against those because we recognize them as sin .... until a homosexual gives their life to Christ and His teachings and recognizes their sin as sin, they will not fight against it

Did he say any person was less than any other person? If anyone thinks a person is less because of what he or she does or does not do could read Luke 15 about a Father who loved His son... no matter what; just because He chose to. The love of God does not depend on us... good thing too; because we can be pretty unlovable... all of us can. However, that still does not relieve us from our responsibility of responding repentantly, lovingly in return to Him... once He has shown us what He expects of us. That, we do not do anything to earn His love, but because He has changed us from the person we were to the person we are becoming. Now, if a person continues to dwell in darkness. it is because the light is not in him. Jesus said that... castigate Phil if you want... but Jesus said it long before Phil... AND that is the standard by which you and I will be judged. Those continuing contrary to God's standards will be judged by His standards... not mine... not yours... not Phil's. Good thing again... because we would get it wrong... way wrong.
