And I would like to believe that Phil is above Miley Cyrus type publicity stunts.

Yeah, I'm sure GQ knew how he would answer, thus the reason for bringing up the topic. I'm sure the writer was giddy as could be when he answered the way he did.

It was equally dumb then to say his statement was dumb since he was just answering an interview question. I guess we should all consult A&E before making statements to see if they are politically correct or not, heaven forbid someone disagrees. Disagreeing with it doesn't make it dumb but if that's the logic you want to use then by all means.

Im sorry but it seems like the bulk of your position is based around the fact that phil should have known better.

If a woman is wearing skimpy clothes and gets raped, should she have known better?

In both instances the individual was expressing themselves in a lawful manner. Does the excuse "they should have known better" really make what happened any less damaging?

That being said, I believe A&E set this whole thing up. Phil has been very vocal about A&E inserting fake bleeps into their show, trying to force him to not use the name of jesus during his prayers and so on. It seems likely that this was used to force phil to breach a clause in his contract (publicity clause concerning statements that may be damaging to A&E) to shut him up. Now if such a clause existed in the contract, then A&E has every right to suspend him for his statements ; If a clause like this didn't exist, then their actions are iffy at best.

Everyone knows what the bible says about homosexuality, its no large secret. I do not see a point in GLAAD being upset because someone said that sin is sin. The homosexual/bisexual/transgender society in this country has been attempting to force acceptance for an incredibly long time. I agree that everyone should have equal right to work, should be treated fairly under the law, and be recognized as a soverign entity with natural rights. However I do not feel that I MUST be forced to accept them. I can be forced to treat them fairly, to treat them with respect and dignity, but i cannot be forced to ACCEPT their lifestyle choice.

Under the first amendment, I have a right to speak my mind on what I believe. I don't know that I agree with everyones idea that "freedom of speech does not equate to freedom from reprocussion". It seems like the bulk of the reprocussions always fall on people who follow traditional beliefs and thought systems. I would venture a guess that this is likely due to the fact that individuals who follow alternative lifestyles generally do so in search of acceptance that they never recieved at a point in the developmental stage. This manifests itself later on as they FORCE people to accept them, whether they like it or not. Political correctness is the worst ****ing thing that ever happened to people on the face of this planet.

I'm pretty sure the 1st amendment means just that.... freedom from reprocussions for your belief systems. What phil said wasn't slander/libel and it wasn't outrageous. He was a man, voicing HIS opinion, in the forum of his choosing, and quoting a well respected text as a basis for his belief system. He doesn't have a right to be punished for doing so.
