Exactly. Freedom of speech =/= freedom from consequence.

It seems that a lot of folks in this thread are having difficulty grasping that concept.

 

I said nothing about A&E, I am trying to understand why making that statement was "dumb."

I'm not having trouble grasping anything Swamp, I am having a hard time understanding why people comment on his statement as if he just made up some statement rather than just referring to the Bible. Is referring to the Bible somehow now terms for being fired or suspended from work?

EDIT: I'm not sure what the Bible considered "wine" was actually alcoholic and I am also not sure if having a drink of alcohol would be equal to being a drunkard. I'm not trying to argue that angle because I simply don't know.

 

I nevet said drinking was a sin. I said drinking then thinking of sins...ie other women, acts that may hurt others, etc, are sins.

He is a public figure. We all know how sensitive and PC the media is these days, correct? So making statement such as those are on a national medium is dumb.

No, actually it shows how sad of a nation we are, and state of the world for that matter. You may recall that according to the Bible God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, two cities full of gays, idolaters, adulterers, drunks, and their sympathizers living amongst them. So no, you can put all the smilies you want thinking A&E's decision backs up your opinion, but you seem to be stuck in the nonesense worldly view of media matters and political correctness.

How so? Explain. A&E suspending him may support your opinion but I would challenge suspendng someone for referencng the Bible. Either way its their loss not his. Another network could pick up the show and A&E's ratings would crash. Seeing that DD is the number one show on cable TV shows that America sides with him and his family not A&E.

Does Phil care? Probably not.

 

I doubt they cancel the show. The new season has already been filmed. They might edit a few of Phil's scenes out, but it's popularity will probably just grow because of this.

I'm sure A&E loves the attention this has created.
