Don't kid yourself, Willie cares a lot if the show is on the air or not. He's the marketer in the family. If you think they're making all their money off of duck calls now, you're sorely mistaken. Hats, tshirts, doormats, air fresheners, mud flaps, underwear, wine, toilet paper, etc is their big business now. Phil may not care about the money, but I would hazard to guess that the rest of the family and people they employ do.

It's Ok if they offend the majority but you can't hurt the feelings of the minority.

Not really sure why the gays care what the bible says if they don't believe in God. If they do then they know what it says.

Think I'll be shutting my cable off this year and this is good reason.

I agree...Walmart is the biggest retailer in America.

But do they need A&E? I dont think they do. They could be picked up anywhere immediately.

They most certainly care about the money and business. You don't fall into an empire like that without caring. I do agree with Caleb though that they likely don't care which network it's on. A&E needs them more than they need A&E...

That's not what a lot of people in this thread seem to believe about them though.

I agree that A&E needs them worse than they need A&E, but to think they don't need A major network is absurd.

Believing in god and being gay are not mutually exclusive.

He didn't claim they were exclusive. He said if they don't believe in God why do they care what the Bible says. If they do believe in God then they should know exactly what the Bible says.

I may have misinterpreted, but to me it seemed like his first sentence was hinting that gays do not belive in god.

We will see. I doubt the show is cancelled. Phil will probably be less prominent now, and I'm sure he doesn't care.

He was paraphrasing a verse in the Bible, so regardless if you agree with the Bible or not, why was it dumb? Why should he hide who he is and what he believes in when a) freedom of speech, b) gay rights is shoved down everyone's throats (excuse the pun), and c) freedom of speech (listed twice because it's pretty damn important).

People who don't understand the Bible don't understand that according to it a sin is a sin. According to the Bible there is no sin-o-meter that says one thing is worse than another, all sin is equally evil. And according to the Bible, "a man shall not lay with another man" is pretty easy to understand. Trying to convince oneself that one thing isn't as bad as another comes from our human nature because people try to tell themselves that what they are doing is ok to satisfy their conscience. So again, regardless if one agrees with the Bible, he has every right to refer to it since that's what he bases his morals and values on.

I didn't call him dumb. I said it was a dumb statement to make.

Why? What's dumb about it? Is it dumb that the Bible says it too?

In some people's opinion yes. I for one agreed with everything he said, except for the style he used when comparing female and male genitals and their appeal to him....that small section could have been delivered better :) (less funny/blunt but better)

So they have a problem with the Bible then, not him. Why punish him for his beliefs and just because he is stating what's in the Bible?

You do not understand why it would be dumb for a public figure to make a statement lumping gays in with bestiality and terrorists?

No, considering he is paraphrasing the Bible, which is what he bases his morals and values on. Like I said, according to the Bible a sin is a sin, there is no sin-o-meter. Public figure doesn't mean he loses his rights to free speech and his belief system now does it?

"a man shall not lay with another man"----to whom did God tell that statement?

And if all sins are equal then Phil and his family are guily of many sins. I am sure they drink a good amount and think of sins (which according to people is the same as actually sinning)........ I could go on and on.....

Nope. He can say whatever he wants.

And A&E can fire him for it

His rights were never infringed upon.

Drinking is not a sin...Jesus himself drank alcohol, it's gluttony and debauchery (drunkeness). And actually to be honest I don't believe Phil does drink anymore but not 100% on that, I think he stopped after he got his life turned around.

America, the place where speaking your mind is dumb. Brilliant. That should go on a poster.
