I know it's legal in some states but not mine. Don't know much about it.

Well I am from MN, and I was always told that you could party hunt deer during gun season... We bow hunt solo not as a group since only me and my brother do it. Im gonna go look it up right now!

I called and checked with the dnr last year cause I knew the wife wasn't gonna be able to really do much hunting. They said if you're both out then the other can tag it just fine. Can't give someone your tag, like if ones at work and the hunter has their tags. And once someone's tag is filled their done. So potentially if you're out with a group one person could do all the killing

I just looked it up and it is legal to party hunt in MN in our area as long as we are all using firearms or all using archery and we dont take more deer than we have licenses.

I get deer on cams that come thru on my ground that only show at night and come by one time every year these deer are old and smart so waiting for one of them is a crap shoot at best so I have spent many a year eating tag soup and passing smaller buck only to watch cross the fence and get blasted. Can't control the other side of the fence.

I let the hunt decide on what's big enough on that day as sometimes it's just how the deer came to me thats special.

We have those problems too! many bucks have only been seen with a trail camera on our land! and many deer have been passed up on our land only to get shot by our neighbors or even others in our group. We have had a hard time getting everyone on board with the "let them go so they can grow" train... Its a work in progress!

I think the "let them go so they can grow" aspect is still hard to grasp for a lot of Minnesotans... Most hunt because of the rich history around the sport, and not so much for the trophy aspect of it (at least I think so). I am going into my 2nd year as a bow hunter and I passed up numerous small bucks last year - After discussing it with my older brother I have decided that if it gets later in the season and I have an opportunity to take a smaller buck, I am going to do it for the simple fact that getting that first bow buck.

This year I could have dropped a small 8pt running across our field... Let him go only to have the two neighbors shoot at him 9 times.

Great thread Josh! I was in that situation last season. I had 2 shooters showing up regularly early season. I told myself which ever one showed first was going down. the smaller of the 2 (129") showed up and there was no hesitation, my heart was pounding, I shot him and it was awesome! I never saw the bigger one (chunk) in a hunting situation last fall. still not sure if he made it through or not. That cool day in late October when you see him, you will know right at that moment what the decision is!!!!

I also don't number my hit list. If its on there and I have a chance ill take him. I won't hesitate if a strange buck that makes me happy and gives me an opportunity either.

If any buck on my Hitlist comes in, he is down as soon as I get a good shot. I just need them to come in. We can kill 6 Bucks here in NC during deer season. So they all will be in trouble! :tu:

You kill #2 when he shows up. Anything that makes my hit list is game on. Sure I will always have a #1 #2 #3 and so on. But that does not mean I am solely after #1. If that were the case I would never shoot one. I have never shot #1 before and I have 10 mounts all between 125 3/8 to 160.

IMO, if you feel you are settling, I wouldn't shoot.

If its on your hit list then shoot! If you pass it, whats the point of callin it a hit lister? But, this is also comin from a hunter who isnt that good, and is happy with any decent buck lol

For me, any buck over 120" is a shooter right now, so I try to determine that before I shoot a buck. A lot of times s*** happens though and you have 2 seconds to decide while you can only see half his rack. In the end every deer taste good:)

I ended up taking my number 3 buck this past year after passing him twice. It's a good thing I did because i never did get a chance at 2 or 1.
