I'm a new bowhunter, this year. I just bought an old Bear bow, from a friend, to use for this year, to make sure that it is something I would enjoy. Turns out, I love the sport. I'd like to purchase a new bow sometime between now and next fall. I'm not sure what direction I'll go, yet. I haven't shot enough different bows to make a decision on what to get (though I love the Hoyt Rampage XT), but I'm curious if there is a time of the year that is better for getting the best deal on a new bow. Like Super Bowl week for new TVs.

BTW, I've already learned a ton and really enjoyed reading this forum.

For buying a new bow the best time is late November through December because that is when the new bows are released and shops are trying to clear inventory for the next year. If you want the new as in latest and greatest, there really isn't a "best" time of year. Another option to look at if you do not want to dump $900-1200 on a new set-up is to go lightly used. You can get some good deals on bows that have hardly been shot online. There are many people with deep pockets out there who buy 6 bows a year and shoot them twice and then sell them. Look around, shoot a TON of them and let the bow pick you.

Thank you for the input. I found a place locally that has the CRX 32s for the same price as the Rampage XTs. Unfortunately, I don't have time this week to try anything out, even though this looks like a great deal. Hopefully, I can get in to try it out on Friday. I haven't shot much of anything else, yet, but I hope to get out Friday to try some out. I've heard good things about the Bowtech Assassin, but I can't find anywhere nearby to try them out. I'm partial to the Hoyt I've already shot, but I know I should give other bows a shot, before laying down all that cash.

How did you do with the Bear? New expensive bows are nice but can be very pricy. If you enjoy the sport and nothing is wrong with the one you bought, why not stick with it? Bear makes some really good bows for the price. If you want a faster etc... and can handle not having the newest and best, you can pick up 3-5 year old bows way cheaper and a dead deer will never know the difference. JMO

Look into the PSE Bowmadness series of bows the XL, XS or 3G great bows at great prices and lifetime warranty. I have a new 2012 XS I love it !!!! Will be great for tree stand or blind hunting. No hand shock, not very nosiy and shoots very well. You don't need to spend 800.00+ to get a great hunting bow.
