...are you always afraid that they are going to come back later and kill everyone? Cause I'm kinda nervous right now. Guy got fired this afternoon and went ballistic. As he was walking out, he screamed "THIS ISN'T OVER!!"

    I'm taking off tomorrow.

I've been thru several layoffs at the places I worked. Usually they are very uneventful. One time there was a guy that flipped out & made threats as he left. EVERYONE was on edge the following day and for the next couple weeks. We all made sure the exits were locked and the delivery gates closed. Nothing ever happened though.

Being the son of the guy who does all the firing...I keep a close eye as the person leaves. There has been quite a few firings since I have been there. We haven't had any blowups yet.

If I was ever to be fired, the 1st week of November would be the ideal time. :D

I did work with a guy about 10 years ago that made some threats about violence. He got a visit from the local police, nothing ended up happening. It was a nervous at work for awhile, though.

A guy in my office got fired last week for a DUI in a work vehicle. Could of been bad but he got offered a job with a consulting firm for 30 grand more than what he was making.

That's why I always buddy up with the slackers/weirdos at work. Buy em a snickers bar every now and then.

That way when he comes in and goes postal from office to office he will get to yours, lower the gun and whisper....thanks for the candy.

I wouldn't worry a lot about it. Make sure to have a plan but I wouldn't let it consume you. A lot of people freak out and say stuff in a bit of rage but cool off later about it. Also, maybe he meant he's going to try and sue the company or something dumb.

I've been through 3 plant closings, one was a result of a union strike and i'm not in the union. It didn't bother me so much because I wasn't technically part of that plant and some were my friends. Things were tense but never did I fear for my life.
In my current employer we have a large amount of layoffs due to the recession and one guy went completely nuts but nothing ever came of it.

18 years of running a business I've escorted A LOT of employees to the front door with their last paycheck and turning in their key. I've heard about everything there is to hear as far as threats and what they think of my kind/gentle personality:deer:. Not one of them have ever amounted to anything.

Never had the feeling before, it would take some real planning to have someone get back in where I work! You have to drive through a guard shack and show pass first before they raise gate arm! Then drive 1/4 mile to parking lot,,park and walk through a turn stile that wont open unless you have a swipe card! Its fenced around it!

I've actually worked for a couple psycho bosses. Most the emplyees were more scared off them then any other employee working at either place. They were worried about bosses flipping out and bringing a gun to work. LOL

I was working at a plant and the front part of it was having problems with their equipment which made for very long days for us to send things out to them. It had been going on for a week so I was starting at 7 in the morning and getting out of there anywheres from 2 - 3 the following morning. Just to be back to work at 7 AM. You would work 7 days... get a day off... work 5 days... get a day off. I was 6 days into my 7 day when I had an encounter with the boss.

The boss was a psyhco but was never there since he owned two other plants besides this one. He pulled in at midnight one night in a rage. Throwing things, breaking things, knocking things over and screaming at everyone in the front. He pretty much shut down the front part to ream ass. Since they were shut down...we were shut down. It also meant not getting home before 3 AM. I was getting tired off it so I decide to go out to take a break and watch the fire works.

I walked out front and walked over to the pop machine and bought a pop. The boss was watching me while he was reaming the others. When I cracked the pop open and took a big slurp... it was kind of loud. A couple people sneakered. Apparently it aggrivated the boss. He comes storming over and gets in my face. Wants to know what I am doing and why I am not back working in the other part of the plant. I grinned at him and then lean into him so our faces were about an inch a part. He was a good one for that to intimidate people. Seen him do that many times. He didn't like it one bit when I did it to him !! I told him some idiot came in here and shut the front part down so I am taking a break since we can't get our work done until the front gets going again.

He is beyond steaming mad now. He was at a loose for words so we had a bit of a stare down. When the prick finally looked away... I took another big slurp of pop and did the famous AAAWWWWW. I asked him when he thought the front would get going again so I could get back to work. I think his mouth hit the floor. I was still grinning at him. LOL

He turns around and hollers at the other workers to get back to work. He storms out of the plant. We get done at 3:30.

Next morning when I got to work at 7... I got called into the office. I figured I was fired but didn't care. Walked in and the manager and assistant manager are waiting for me. Manager was laughing his arse off and told me I was nuts. I told him to tell the boss I wanted a raise by the next pay check or he could shove it. I figured I had nothing to lose. It was only a matter of time before he fired me. Was fun seeing the assistant manager mouth drop to the floor cause he was a suck up to the boss. We called him Brownie for short.

    I got my raise !! :) I should have asked for more !!!! :(

Crazy thing is... everytime I saw him after our little stare down... he would always smile, say hi and ask how things were going. It was short lived though. About 5 months later he did pull out a gun... but he put it to his own head and commited suicide. Here he was loosing everything when he lost a bunch of major contracts. He wasn't doing real good to start with when he had the contracts. He found out about losing the contracts a few weeks before his rampage that one night.

I probably picked a bad time to push his buttons. LOL

If I felt I needed a gun at work to feel safe, I would find another job.

So you can predict when something is going to go awry? Must be nice. My clairvoyance skills suck.

Besides, carrying concealed isn't about 'feeling' safe to me; it's about having the confidence and ability to respond in defense of others and myself when the unpredictable takes place. [IMG]
