Being new to hunting i'm starting to notice that after going hunting i blow a bunch of money the next year, a week before i go. I would like to know when you have found the best time to buy hunting equipment. Do you do it thoughout the year or do you wait a few days before you go out. My wife seem to think that buy during the off season (right after hunting season is over) would be the way to go, but i have notice that everything is on sale a week before the season starts or during the season. Let me know what you think and thanks for the feedback.

Before you need it and after the season ends you will get the best deals at most of the stores.

Before and after (Clearance). However, most of us don't realize that we need/want something new until the sales are over and the season is well in. I really try to purchase any expensive items in the off seasons, so that I don't run out of money during the season.

I buy throughout the season as I need things before hunts, during hunts, after hunts, etc. Cabelas should make me an executive for all the money I throw their way.

Its only going to get worse I feel. The little lady I'm dating, her dad has his own bow shop out at his ranch. I can't leave that place without finding something I need but he lets me borrow alot of cool stuff too so it works well. I just have to stay away from the new bows.

I already made two seperate transactions to them today. Base layer under armour clothing and 800 gram boots. Mine got a little cold yesterday as they arent cold weather boots.

Then I decided I needed a new skinning knife and a plastic bow case since i'll be traveling out of state here soon on a deer hunt.

IF you watch around on places like eBay and ArcheryTalk Classifieds and are willing to buy slightly used stuff to get high end gear for cheap, you can get some STEALS starting here in a few weeks. Guys buy a bow in March for $900 and let it go for $500 that December "for christmas money". Story goes the same with Sitka Gear, Kifaru Packs, you name it.

I buy 95% of my gear online. I pay retail for maybe 5% of it. I usually don't buy stuff unless its 40-50% of retail, but some stuff I buy is "used".

Example, Monday I bought a Vital Bow Gear Pentagon Sight in Lost Camo, retails for $189. Got it shipped to my door for $100 from AT Classifieds, and the only use it had was it was screwed on to a bow, the guy hated the pins configuration, and wanted to sell it to buy something else. His silly decision saved me 48% off retail for a good as new item.
