The topic is not about beaning for this and that! We were talking about the return from 3rd base to 1st and walking acrossed the mound. There are purpose pitches and I agree with that.

Not agreeing with another persons opinion has no bearing on understanding the game.

Really I think unless you play or have played pretty competitive baseball in your life I don't think you will understand the unwritten rules and the consequences for when they're broken.

Oh and if hitters could aim the baseball like that you would see a lot more .900 averages out there than right now. Sure it's not too hard to hit a ball the opposite way or pull one, but to hit one right back to a certain player? That's pretty tough ;)

I never said they could hit every ball....duh! But if you couldn't, (for a word...aim) your stroke to an intended part of the field..perhaps you weren't that good with the bat??

It's just the way it is. I know you get it because your a fan of the game. You just don't understand why, I guess? Can I ask if you were a pitcher past high school level baseball? You may think that question hold no merit, but it does. I can tell you that I pegged a many a batter that was A) crowding the plate and didn't take heed to the first or second inside pitch to get the hell off of the plate. B) their pitcher just pegged one of my best hitters after he hit a homerun off of him the at bat before. I never aimed for anyones head to hit them. I have thrown at someones head before, but they would have had to jump 2 feet in the air to have been hit. When I purposely hit someone I aimed right at their ribs and they usually turned right into it and took it somewhere in the back.

It's baseball. That is your only defense as a pitcher. You just can't toss your glove down and duke it out like you can in hockey. If I hit a guy and he comes up the next at bat and jacks one then good for him. He got me and got his revenge in the only way he can.

I'm waiting for this to unfold a little further until I reveal my baseball career. In the meantime I find the assumptions absolutely hilarious.

By the way ... I've been thinking about it last night. I'm stepping down today as the Freshman high school baseball coach. After this thread I feel I have no business coaching a team. I have no knowledge of the game. Hope the kids take it well.

    I love these unwritten rules.

So in basketball, it would be cool if player A kneed player B in the groin, if player B made eye contact with player A? B/c everyone who has played basketball knows that it's an unwritten rule that you DO NOT make eye contact with another player. If you do not understand this, then you just don't get it.

In football, it's perfectly acceptable if player A spears player B in the back because player B is totally wearing the same wrist band as player A. It's an unwritten rule in football that one player DOES NOT wear the same wrist band as another player. If you do not understand this, then you just don't get it.

I hope some of you can see the absurdity of all this.

That's just it, NY. There's NO PLACE for many of these unwritten rules at the 9th grade level. I didn't learn of many of them, until I was beyond the HS level.

You think most 14yr old golfers know how to properly rake a bunker - and where to leave the rake?

Time and a place for (most) everything. Nobody expects 9th graders to know them. They need to have fun and learn the fundamentals. Period.

My question to you was not a personal slam, but you took it that way as I figured you would. I asked you that question to get to the point that GMMAT made. The level of the game changes tremendously past high school. That's all I was getting at.

Shows just how "out of touch" you are with "Todays" game. Just like 5th graders doing algebra, everything starts ealier today than in our day. The gamesmanship and game theory (your unwritten rules) have evolved and begin at a much younger level.

As for your Raking bunker theory.....it would make sense if the bunker was also 14 years old. ;)

    Bob:

I never claimed to be in touch with today's 5th grade game. You're welcome to that (more patience than I)......and I'm sure the kids love you for it. Good on you.

The bunker analogy did a fly-by like an F-14, apparently.

Kids being kids. Take the shortest way back to your base and get over it. If the pitcher wants to throw a ball at you... get out of the way and throw your bat back. That'll really get his attention. LOL I honestly don't think you have to have played a sport at the college level.... which hundreds of thousand of people have, they're not unique... to understand what's going on. I think their childish actions at times are totally laughable. Play the damn game.... leave the attitudes at home. All this macho stuff is why so many sports are in trouble today. All the passes inspite of what they've done these kids have had because they can hit the ball lead to the press problems of today. GMMAT, you may have played college ball.... well good for you. But someone can have a different opinion of what's right, wrong or foolish that may not be the same as yours. These guys get paid millions of dollars and can't play well and get along with others. I bet it was on their report cards too. LOL

    David:

I don't care what your or anyone else's "opinion" of the game....or how it's played is. Never have.

Just don't attempt to belittle a system you don't understand. Because, ALL the guys at the level being discussed DO understand.

You military guys did some quirky things I probably don't understand as part of your SOP. My ignorance of your codes leave me nothing but to admit such, and respect them as YOURS.

It is known that I played a little college ball as well...I had 2 brothers from Perry Sound Canada come down and play with us. They LOVED hockey and spoke with excitement each time we talked about it.I thought ESPN had given me a fair amount of knowledge about the game, boy was I wrong. When they told me about guys protecting the stars, who fights and who doesnt etc...I thought nothing other than how cool it was to learn those unwritten rules. Agree to disagree, but respect a sports abiltiy to police their own, something we failed at along time ago as a society. No one brings a bat to the mound, they respect the rules...Hockey guys drop their sticks in order to fight, because they respect the rules...etc.

Get out of line and even your own teammates will remind you of the way it should have been done.

I have two nephews that played college sports...one golf at Ga. Tech...one baseball. The baseball player is a coach at the high school level. He doesn't teach unwritten rules....only the rules of the game and sportsmanship. He also teaches Sunday school classes and all that. I'm not belittling the system.... just the hot heads that ultimately cost their team a game, get suspended or whatever because they let themselves have their chain jerked at the wrong time and do something stupid. Military people don't do anything quirky. We try to stay alive and keep others alive by killing someone who's trying to kill you. Other than that, we're normal people.

I hear ya, Dave. But, with all the "killin" and stuff going on.......I wonder if the kill-ees are worried about whether or not your dress belt buckle is shiny or not?

No kidding. As it does with every sport (or everything). This is just weird. You guys act like you have a secret code or something because you played past the high school level? You have some superior knowledge over everyone else regarding baseball? Nobody else "gets it" because they didnt' play college baseball lmfao. Only the people that have actually played college baseball can understand why a pitcher beans a batter or throws at him right? WOW pretty wild stuff.
