If I do get asked I'll usually try and explain ecosystems and the food chains within them. Talk about predator-pray situations, relationships between producers and consumers, things like that. If they want to press the issue, and get rude, I just tell them that I don't tell you how to get your protein (whatever it maybe), so don't tell me how I should get mine.
How can I share this video with my friends/family? Excellent job. I've never been asked the question of "why" I hunt. I don't think I've ever had anyone question it either. It's a way of life where I'm from. I've worked with a strict vegan for 3 years and she has never questioned why I hunt/fish so much.
I don't get too much into it, unless they are geniune. Usually it is someone trying to open a door to a soap box opinion I have no chance of swaying, so I generally let them rant and silently judge them. If someone is geniune, I'll tell them I love the solitude in and the beauty of God's outdoors, the thrill of trying to convince a wary animal to get close enough you can shoot with a bow, game managemant so we can continue to live in a world with these animals, that turkeys frustrate me, and hogs in Texas need killing. Those who hunt turkeys know what I mean.
I've never had anyone outright tell me they were against it or argue about it or anything but in conversation when they ask me why I hunt and fish I just let them know that it's a part of me and born into it. I tell them I eat what I shoot and it's a lot more healthy than the garbage pumped full of hormones from the store. I offer to take them hunting so they can see what it's really like but no one ever goes. I have helped a few people make firearms purchases and did a team building event at the shooting range, though, and it was a blast. Excuse the pun.
