And just to clarify, my max range is dependent on if I can maintain atleast 2-3" grouping out to 40 yards. After that unless conditions are perfect, imo there are just too many variables. I do practice at up to 70 yards semi regularly though. Also my range shortens as the season goes on because for whatever reason I don't practice nearly as much once the season starts Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I shoot all year. I have blocks at 20-30-40-50-60. I can hit at 70, just have to move the block. I can hit a pie plate at 70 all day. At 50 a 3 inch group is average. I practice long, so the shorter shots seem easier.
Exactly when you practice at 60 yards a 20 yard shot seems like a piece of cake Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
We have two stands that each have runs at 37 yards. I have a 37 yard pin specifically set for those stands. I'll never shoot more than 37. I've killed one out of each stand at 37 over the past 3 years. If you're wondering why we don't move the stands closer... it's because we have better trails at 8 and 13. -D
Yes and those flingers you mention will not stop at 40 yards. They will not let distance stop them an go right past 40 to 50-60 How do you determine how far is your range? I have 3 criteria. 1. First shot accuracy within 1/3 - 1/2 of killzone. 2. 90-95% of shot grouping within 1/3-1/2 of killzone. 3. Worst 2% is still in the killzone. I then subtract a distance of 5-10 yards. As We shoot farther the groups get bigger, so I have no idea how you asses your range without setting a grouping size you need to be in. I do not know how set a grouping size that is not based upon your target size. Overall I am very conservative with my shot selection. Sent from my iPad using Bowhunting.com Forums
Sorry, I thought the point I was making was obvious. I simply cant stand the guys that will extend their comfort zone in range due to the size of headgear that a deer is wearing. Period. Few, if any of them are thinking about the size of the deer's lungs. They may use that as an excuse, but I'm not buying it. Many openly admit to the practice. Greed for a trophy is a stupid reason to push your limits. I will leave it at that.
40 yards if it's not spooked my food plot is 45 yards to the back corner. This new bow I'm very very comfortable with and have become a great shot with it so I might take a 45 if I'm desperate. But in the woods 30 max Mike4christ
Around 50 yards depending on the wind, shot path and all that fun stuff Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
