Most of my kills are 15yd to 20yd. I don't practice past 30. Sent from my iPad using Bowhunting.com Forums
40 yrds early in the season, but as the layers pile up my max range shrinks. Bibs and parka = 30 max. Sent from my XT1254 using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Being in Kansas range is often longer but wind is more of an issue. I do practice out to 50 yards and in the wind. Very seldom shoot past 40 yds and things have to be right.
Open field, relaxed deer & I'm relaxed I'd shoot out 60. I try to practice out to 80 & 100 at least 3 times a week. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Killed one a little over 60 yards years ago but put my time in shooting 80 back then. I would still shoot one at 50 if all the conditions were right.
Every inch last 20 yds seems like a mile to me in the deer woods Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
A lot of guys frown on this approach with the thinking that it's sad that a bigger deer is worth taking a riskier shot. The way I see it is a bigger deer is a bigger target with bigger vitals so yea I would push my max a little further for a giant deer too. 35 and 40 is about right for me. Most deer I've shot have been about 20. I don't think I've shot over 30. Im comfortable to 40 on a deer but anything past that your relying on the deer to either drop or not.
I hope I never have to decide if I shot is too far to take. For me it would be tough to get a shot that is 40 yards without brush getting in the way.
Where i hunt doesnt allow for shots over 22 yards and most would be around 15. Ill practice out to 40 and can make good shots to that range but i dont think I'd shoot past 30 and currently dont have to
40 yards if conditions were perfect. I will say that practicing out to 55 yards has dramatically increased my accuracy from shorter distances though. Just get ready to lose a couple arrows early on.
50 yards, I practice out to 100 maybe pop a shot off at 120 if I'm feeling risky. I have 2 stands that would guarantee a 30 yard or less shot so I like to be prepared. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
