How far are you guys comfortable shooting a whitetail? I'm talking in an open field with a relaxed deer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Depending on the size of the deer, 30 yards is generally the cutoff. If a megabuck comes out and he has no idea I'm there I would let one fly from 40 but not a touch further. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I'm not gonna shoot a 1.5 year old doe at 40 yards. I would rather play the odds at making a good shot. The only shot I'm taking passed 30 had better be worth it Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Forty is max for me. It would have to be a perfect scenario though, calm deer, no wind. Sent from my H1611 using Tapatalk
Usually 40 but only on a totally relaxed mature buck but and at the moment I am not feeling that good at 40 so I'd say 30. I need to push a few hundred arrows through my bow over the next 3 weeks and that could change. I see no reason to shoot at a doe past 30. Meat isn't that hard to come by. I'm not too stressed about it though because I have never killed a buck further than 25 yds anyway.
No more than 40 comfortably. I practice past there at times but just don't have the consistency beyond that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
35-40 is what I tell myself. But I have drawn back twice on deer that were at 45-50 and were not going to get any closer. Both times the deer gave me no clear shot, and both times I was thankful for that. Its hard to maintain discipline when your in the moment, you spend all this time practicing and scouting just to have your target dance around a few yards out of reach.
I like them in between fifteen and twenty yards. I have taken two at thirty but conditions were just right for the shot. I've let lots of them walk if I wasn't positive that the shot would be what I wanted for a good clean kill.
The woods I hunt limit me to 30 yards. On a deer sized animal I probably wouldn't shoot further than anyway unless conditions were perfect. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
