Now that I have most everything I need/want, I spend very little on bowhunting related stuff. Usually just a license and maybe a new target once a year or so. I might do a MO hunt in 2010, so that would certainly change things somewhat.
A lot. Not to mention that I also have a boat and fish plus I spend a lot of time on the ice each year. So what this amounts to is that I spend all of my extra $ on hunting and fishing.
Jeff and I are on opposite ends of the spectrum. My wifes decides how much I spend on a hunting budget. I get to keep all of my OT and that can add up to a LOT since I determine when I have to work OT. BUT, Carie runs the household budget,( and quite well I might add), and my hunting/recreation budget comes out of household. So far it works out good. I get everything I need even if I don't get some stuff I want. I get to travel a bit, at least one out of state trip per year and a few in state trips. If I have to turn in my man card now, oh well!
Each person is different. Since the birth of my 3rd child last year I have really tightened down on everything I do. If I get 6-12 new arrows each year plus the same amount of broadheads, I am happy. Add my hunting license plus the gas I spend and that is about what I spend, plus the small clothing pick-ups each season. I just cannot bring myself to spend too much money even though I would love to buy a new bow this year or at least a new bow sight. But I just deal.
Always OVER by about 350%. I used to spend quite a bit on hunting each year. Now that Bass Pro Shop opened 5 minutes and 42 seconds from my house, i spend a ridiculous amount of money every year. I honestly think I go there every single day of my life. I don't have a grand total (and don't really want one lol). I did just glance over and do some quick calculations of whats sitting in my kitchen alone lol. Meat grinder ($400), Jerky gun ($60), Dehydrator ($200), scale ($10), vacuum sealer ($100), bags ($50), freezer paper, knives, seasonings for sausage, etc..... ($50). $870 on my kitchen counter! I'd rather not go to my man room and start calculating my gear.
Let's see? This past year I hunted IL, KS, & NE I had to buy tags, gas, new equipment purchased, etc., etc. Well too much probably, but Bowhunting is my only vice. :-) Dan
Depends If I do any out of state hunts or not. My biggest expense every year Is probably the gas from all of the 4.5 hour trips back and forth each weekend for bear baiting before the hunting season starts. I'll easily have 500.00 dollars In gas sucked up from the start of baiting till the end of the hunt. It's a good thing we split everything with the group or this would get down right spendy. Trail cams have really caught my Interest as well and I've spent enough money there too. Not Including out of state hunts I'd say 400.00 dollars a year on average I spend here In Minnesota.
I only bought tags/permits and a few bottles of scent this year. Other years I've spent much more. I'm to the point of just replacing what needs fixed....I'm pretty happy with 90% of my gear.
I spend my money on a Oklahoma license, Texas license, bout a dozen arrows each year, a dozen broadheads, gas to Oklahoma, gas bowfishing, bowfishing arrows, a couple cheap lock-ons, my javilina hunting trip, and a few other items...............I'd say about $1500 a year
Every year I have my regular expenses (licenses, hotels, gas, new broadheads, new arrows, etc.) and then my new stuff expenses (new stands, new trail cams, new bow this year, etc.). Between the two it gets pretty expensive, but I work hard so that I can have my toys. The sad thing is that what I spend each year even with buying a bow and stands and all of the really expensive things doesn't add up to 2 months of daycare for the kids. Ben is right though it is the $10 here $20 there that really gets you. The bottom line as I spend as much as I can until the wife starts barking, then I hold back until the smoke clears and spend some more.:D
Ben buys all my hunting stuff for me (he's more knowledgeable) ask him. Haha. In all reality I don't have a budget. I'm paying off some debt and that is my only focus. I spend on what I need. If I come across some extra income, it usually goes toward hunting gear.
I know that I spent over $4500 this year just in gear. However that includes getting into filming a little. Next year will be less, but I am looking at leasing some property in Southern Iowa and also hunting our property in North MO. The lease looks like it will run me about $2000. I pretty much spend as much as I need or want to without the wife demanding the same budget. That is the tough part, she thinks if I spend $100 on hunting then she should get $100 to spend on something for herself. Luckily I was able to trick her into ( I mean, steer her towards) getting implants (breast) to make up for my hunting expendatures two years ago.........It was a good year for me.
Gas, other traveling expense, food plots equipment/seed/fertilizer, and property tax/lease fees are really the big ones for me. Outside of these items I spend maybe $1k-$2k per year on just hunting gear. This year the only "gear" I bought was a new Wolfskin button up the front shirt, the Predator fleece set, 2x Loggy Predator stands, and some Muddy sticks (which I've already sold). I don't even want to think about what I've spent on the food on the road, gas, food plots, and tax/lease fees. Enough to probably pay for a hunt every year where there are actually some big deer. :D
Don't make me total it!!!! I don't buy much hunting "stuff" (in fact just bought my first new bow in a decade) but I take 2 trips a year, lease, licenses, etc. Honestly I wouldn't go on 2 trips if it was just me, but my dad won't be able to do this forever and I don't want to look back and think, "gee, I wish I would have spent more time with him" when I know that I could have. Life is short and you never know what tomorrow may bring.
I plan on dropping about $1500 on bush planes every year. That's the only real "budgeted" item. The rest of the stuff I just make sure that I don't spend more than I can afford. Being that I'm single and don't have any other vices besides putting fuel in my boat and beer in the kegerator... I'd hate to do the math!
This is just a guess,,,with license fees and other things, around $250.oo My kids are in my pockets so im tight :D
B.b..b.b.. udg... ? What did you say? I can't even pronounce that word when it follows hunting. I'l try again.... hunting bud...bu..b.b.b.. BUDG.... bu... b... Nope. Still couldn't do it. :D
