Montecs. But there's no way I'm gonna throw away my muzzys. They are however backups to the montec.

Never had a bad blood trail with the Montecs- that was the head I used when I started. Honestly, my arrow would be in a few pieces every time I shot a deer with it and I never had bad blood trails. I would index my arrows, but ran out of time so I grabbed killzones off the shelf. Would go back to an indexed fixed blade in a heartbeat.

I've killed dozens of critters with muzzys and have no complaints. Economical and reliable.

Two years ago I started shooting NAP thunderhead edge's. Best flying fixed blade I have shot. I really like the offset blades. On the front of my axis 340s they have been deadly...pass throughs in every deer ive shot with them. In the past I did like the muzzy mx-4 also. Killed a lot of deer with those too

Are the blades replaceable? If not how do you sharpen them? They seem like they would be tough to sharpen with that curve...

Good to hear! It's no wonder my buddy swears by them.

My favorite fixed blade of all time is the NAP Nitron. Tough as nails, flew like a dart and scary sharp. However since all of you big expandable freaks bought into the hype nobody bought them and they were discontinued. Thanks, Drury Outdoors.

In light of that I'm now shooting the Thundhead Razor. Just as sharp and flies great. I'll report in on durability after I manage to get close enough to shoot something this fall.

I'm not as adamant about it as the Idaho Division of Fish and Game (it's the law.)

Joking aside, yes I do advocate a fixed head for elk. As do the vast majority of responsible hunters. Elk bones (even "just" a rib) are too hard. If dead set on using a mech, you better use a thick bladed short cutting diameter one.

BTW, I never needed to index a Montec. Cutting diameter is so small I don't think it makes any difference.

If I had to pick one specific head I would choose the slick trick grizz trick 2 as my personal favorite. But I would say DRT broadheads are going to be the new thing, they're affordable, you can get them in a variety of colors and if you damage them in anyway they will replace them no questions asked so you know they should be pretty tough.

Good deal thanks for the info. We're tags over the counter? Most important tool we have as bowhunters are consistent arrows brother. I needed to know when I shot at a deer that my arrow was the same as the rest.

You sure have an interesting assorment in your quiver...how do you decide which head to use out on the field?

I checked out the Ramcat's..looks pretty good and not a bad price either.

I hunt mainly from tree stands in central Illinois. I usually set up the DRT for first arrow. Either that or the hypodermic. Shot a 7 pt amd a yotes with the toxic last year. It worked fine

So far seems like Muzzy, Montec's, NAP's, & Slick Tricks are what the majority of you are shooting.
    A couple guys shoot Solids..Ramcat's..

It's always nice to get feed back and see what works and what doesn't... I think I'm sticking with my Muzzy MX-3's for now since I already have em' & I haven't heard one complaint about em' from any of you. Thanks for the other recommendations i'll be sure to check them out.

I'm still curious though about the the Toxic's...I don't know what it is man..maybe it's just the design that looks so cool. I just want to know how well they perform and how you sharpen the blades (looks like a ***** to sharpen cuz of the curves)...Iv'e heard conflictive opinions from some of you about them. So if anyone has some good picture evidence of their kills with Toxic's post em' up..that would pretty cool to see...

Nice! That's I'm guessing that's the picture of the 7pt heart? Nice shooting...The wound doesn't look like what I imagined. @ how many yrds did you take this shot with the Toxic and did it leave an exit wound or stay in?

Shot was 22 yrds. Went all the way through. Cut tendons and chipped bone on far side leg on way to the ground. Cleaned it up, shot tote next weekend with it, and same head still in quiver for yotes

Justin, bought a pack of them about 3 years ago for nine bucks to try them and shot 2 deer with them, you are dead on, wish I would have bought the other 3 packs for that price. Scoot

Another vote for the Montecs. The toxic heads look like they would be a PITA for checking to make sure they hit targets accurately as well as resharpening/ replacing blades. Montecs/ Hellrazors, Slick Trick, and Muzzy's are all proven deer droppers. You may get some disagreements as to which has a better blood trail, but they generally tune very well and put a deer down. I've heard too many conflicting stories on toxic to want to try shooting them.
