The question came up: what is the smallest caliber you trust to protect yourself. My personal favorite bear defense gun has always been a Beretta Jetfire in 22 short! Over all the years I've been hiking in bear country, I never leave without it in my pocket. Of course we all know the first rule when hiking in the wilderness is to use the "Buddy System". For those of you who may be unfamiliar with this it means you NEVER hike alone, you bring a friend or companion, even an in-law, that way if something happens there is someone to go get help. I remember one time hiking with my brother-in-law in northern Ontario . Out of nowhere came this huge brown bear and man was she MAD! We must have been near one of her cubs. Anyway, if I had not had my little Jetfire I'd sure not be here today. That's right, one shot to my brother-in-law's knee cap and I was able to escape by just walking at a brisk pace. That's one of the best pistols in my safe!
I was in the same situation once but with 100 man eating zombies. I popped Ted ( my in-law) in the kneecap and skipped out of there with a blow-pop in my hand like a second grader on his way home from school. I am sure the zombies ate well. Ted weighed in at around 350 lbs.
Since some need more realism in a joke, the joke has now been modified: The question came up: what is the smallest caliber you trust to protect yourself. Everyone knows that anyone with an Air Force background could not hit a knee cap with a full clip. I think you're exaggerating on your skills. You better learn to run faster.
Pfftttt.... that was with no one shooting back or trying to bite your ass. LOL P.S. I qualified Expert with everything ..... except a pistol. Pistols and I just didn't seem to get along. LOL Don't know why that was. Pistols and I are just not friends. I always qualified..... but not by a lot. LOL I could knock off a dink in the twilight zone as long as I didn't have to do it with a pistol. LOL
That's where you're wrong old boy. Been shot at by non friendlies many times throughout my career. I only spent the last 20 in the Air Force after the Army stationed me on an Air Force base (their bad).
Don't tell me you had fun. LOL Where were you in the shooting war? The only pistol I ever shot was the 1911... probably worn out by 100 guys before me.
"Don't tell me you had fun. lol" I served from 1975 to 2008. I was in firefights in multiple places at different times over my career. The majority were in the Army. If anyone tells you it's fun having someone shoot at you with the intention of maiming or killing you, they are either a liar or looney. Over the years, I qualified on: M16 M79 M1911 M9 M3 (Grease gun) MP5 M1A M203 I now return you to the original thread......
