I know a lot of you middle aged guys want to go the other direction:p, but I was curious what's the most weight any of you have gained in a short period of time? How much weight and over what time frame? Aside from beer, what do you contribute it to? I'm in a weird circumstance right now. I made a post a little while ago about a diagnosis that was made on me regarding swallowing issues in the my esophagus. I'm treating it medicinally right now and it's going well, and calmed down some. However, I'm eventually toying with the idea of trying a 6 food elimination diet to see if I can pinpoint a food allergen. The problem with this is I KNOW I will lose weight (need to be on it for 6 weeks, get a clean scope, then 2 weeks for each food introduction). I CANNOT afford to lose the weight. I'm lifting, running, and constantly active, not to mention I've been blessed (or cursed in this situation) with a very fast metabolism. My plan is to try to gain as much weight as possible so I can afford to lose some of the weight if need be. I'm going to try to not make this an unhealthy weight gain, and do so as cleanly as possible, but still I know my caloric intake needs to be HIGH. I've already started, but between working out, and working outside in this humidity, I can't gain quick enough. I lost 10lbs since June 10th, and have gained 4 of it back in two weeks. I think that's a healthy pace, so hopefully I can maintain it. Suggestions are welcomed along with your stories.
After high-school I found beer effective, went from 225 to just under 270 in the three months of summer. Not too shocking looking back but figured at the time wasn't bad. Last summer had been going good for some years then got to sloppy eating around my wedding time which put me from 199 to about 235 in 30 days. Had a few days with awesome wedding cake, smoked brisket and pulled pork leftovers from the wedding, sushi a few times a day on honeymoon, lots of sweet and glazed meat. Overall quantity and carbs did it for me. I know when I overdo carbs I can gain quick but everyone gets affected little differently.
I hope the pregnancy part doesn't add too much. I'm finally cleanly cutting my wedding weight and have a boy due in November and hoping to not repeat the unhealthy bulk
Try some of the weight gainer protein shake supplements, they have a few hundred calories that can be added to your overall intake. Just look at the ingredients if you're concerned about allergies.
Sounds like you should just stop or really cut back on the cardio. Like you, I had a hard time gain weight as a kid but working out and eating lots will get you there. Protein shakes as well. Arnold Schwarzenegger would say, don't stand if you can sit. Don't sit if you can lay down.
