A lot of locals were we hunt in Trempealeau Co Wi are always b*tching about them and blaming them for ruining all the public land or trespassing, etc. What's the detention of a weekend warrior? Sent from my arrow using Mathews
Someone who works all week and goes gung-ho on saturday and sunday. Its frustrating to those who scout all week and are used to hunting low impact and then all the sudden everyone and their cousins are in the woods. Im a weekend warrior alot of the time but i work shift work so i get to sneak out through the weekdays too.
Imo its somebody who hunts very casually/sloppily and isnt really commited to the sport.Of course this does NOT neccisarily apply to the title of Weekend Warrior to the members of the BH forums.
Well excuse me for having a job... Maybe I could arrange to have my days off to be in the middle of the week. So if my days off fall on Tuesday and Wednesday would that be better? #weekendwarriorlivesmatter...
A hardworking, 40+ hour work week, American who has two days a week to do what he loves to do so he makes the most of the time he has.
When I hear the term weekend warriors I see as a part time hunter. For example the guy that gets all his gear out the night before he goes on his first hunt of the year. Then scramble to get to the store before it closes to get his license. Or when he gets his bow out after sitting all year in the garage, then shoots it a few times and says good enough, still shooting the same as last year. Then proceed to go hunting the next day. Those are just a couple examples of what it means to me.
As humans, we like to categorize and label people. No two hunters are the same. Plenty of guys on here who hunt half the time I do and are twice the hunter.
Theres definitely two possible meanings. The guy that works 40 or 60 hrs a week and has 2 days to hunt hard all day until the next weekend... no time to scout through the week, not alot of prep time... then the term is used as Holt said above. A sloppy half a$$ hunter. I know a few of those too and the sad thing is they seem to be the ones who get lucky.
And more than likely the guy that comes in 15 min before shooting light and sets up 100 yards from you. Sent from my arrow using Mathews
In the military weekend warrior is a reservist. The way they are using it is nothing but blaming others for their problems and not wanting to blame people they may know. There are good and bad hunters who can hunt every day or only weekends.
Yeah and they come by the truck load and all of them are laughing and having a good time! All you can do is shake your head. But like VS said above we all hunt in our own ways. As long as your having fun that's all that matters. There is a trick to dealing with this, you have to hunt the hunters and not the deer. Set your self up to be were the deer go when the hunters enter the woods. Your success will go up alot. It's a hard thing to do but it works!
My definition would be the hunter that hunts for 2 days every year. For example....people that don't hunt all year round and then show up for gun season all amped up like they care about hunting. Not because of lack of time or work.
I am a newb here on the forums, but have been bowhunting for 20+ years. I would have to side with the 40+ hour a week guys working hard to keep the family happy and making the most of their weekends by heading out to the woods. For me though, I think about bowhunting 365 and try to plan as much as possible when it comes every hunt. So, by my literal definition I am a weekend warrior because most of my hunting is done on weekends. I do know that many of my bigger bucks have been shot during the week when I am able to take a few days vacation during rut hunting Every Year! I am giving credit to the weekend warriors out there and saying these are the hunters who know what they are doing, and this is the time they have to get out there (not complaining). There is another name for the late to the woods, and "sloppy" hunters out there.... This weekend warrior is heading to the woods now.
What's the definition of a "weekend warrior" I consider them the sloppy bad hunters. Ran into one yesterday. I was in the woods all set and ready to go. I hear a 4-wheeler driving down the road, enters the field right next to where my truck is parked on the side of the road. Drives about 400-500 yards down the field edge. He isn't putting. He is ripping on the wheeler. Parks on the edge of the field. Grabs a climber and walks 50 yards in the woods and makes all kind of noise setting up. I just got down and walked away. He shines his flashlight at me so I go over to talk to him. And of course he doesn't have permission to be in there. I consider weekend warrior guys who have no clue what they are doing. Guys who tend to ruin things for other people who are doing things right. I'm no expert or pro but I think I have a clue and do things the way they should be done. Other think I can't stand is guys who still don't get dressed in the field. Had a guy from my work who wanted to go hunting. It's a half hour ride from my house to the location. He showed at my house in blue jeans and a blue flannel shirt with his boots on and that was it. Nothing to change into. Those were his hunting clothes. Also guys you see in full camo at like 9-10am in the grocery store. No clue. No clue. Gotta "show off" that they hunt. Grocery stores are great for scent control. Must be a new technique I didn't know about.
It could be a bunch of different things. They're probably referring to the out of state hunters that go there for the weekend.
Around he it refers to the guys who like to talk like they are serious hunters but really aren't. You see them in line at the gas station in their full camo buying a coffee after pumping gas. Then they get to their stand at daybreak and just walk in and pick a spot with no scouting. Then they climb down at 9 because "nothing is moving" LOL.
This, I believe is where the phrase started. Back in the "1 weekend a month, 2 week's a year" days. Like many terms, it's use and meaning get a bit fuzzy as people throw it around. I would use it to describe a part time hunter. Not in time available, but commitment of the heart. Still hunters, but less dedicated than the hardcore hunter.
What about hard core year round vs the one weekend a month? At what point does it just become core because you do it all the time?
I was just referring to how the term was being used to blame out of towners. In Wi we have a similar term FIB. In reference to the tourists coming north from Illinois. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
