Don't limit yourself to just Mathews shoot as many bows as possable. As far as sights anything spot hog you can't go wrong on an they have a hell of a military discount

Nothing wrong with a Mathews, but you are doing yourself a disservice if you limit your choice to only Mathews. There are many great bows out there, and the new line-ups are rolling out this time of year. Do yourself a favor and try as many as you can. Also try to shoot as many configurations as you can...speed bows, smooth bows, long ATA, short ATA, etc... This really helps you find what you like and what is comfortable. When I was shopping last year I was really focused on price, so I bought a shorter ATA bow with decent speed. Nothing wrong with my bow, I do enjoy shooting it. However, after shooting some longer ATA bows and bows with more speed, I wish I would have shot more models and not ruled out certain bows because of price. It would have been worth the extra $$ for me to opt for another bow...which I will be doing after I shoot the new bows! :woot:

First let me say thanks for your service.

Mathews does make a great bow but so does a dozen other manufacturers. Some may shoot better or feel better than others, IMO,you should atleast try some of the other bows out there. You may even find a bow that shoots better for you and is cheaper.

As far as accessories, there is a truck load of different ones to choose from and most are high quality.

I like the QAD rest for hunting. The Limb Driver pro v is another great option. Both tune very easily.

Sights are basically a personal preference. I use a Fuse carbon and my son uses an HHA 1 pin slider.

Good luck in your search. A pro shop should be able to help you out.

I'm a Mathews and QAD fan. But I also think you should shoot as many bows as you can. I just bought a toxonics sight. I'd never heard of the brand before but it's a great piece of equipment.

Bunch of manufacturers make good rests. QAD is one that I wish I had went with instead of the Ripcord mainly because of the no fall away on a slow letdown. The Ripcord goes down on a slow letdown which can be kind of a pain if you cant your bow a little and let the arrow fall off. Just have to pay a little more attention to it than you would on the QAD.

Sights, save your money go with something economical and solid. I like Trophy Ridge stuff because its solid, bright pins, and cheap, but there is a lot of good stuff out there. Can't bring myself to spend $125+ on something that really has no bearing on how a bow shoots. Not saying the expensive ones aren't good/better or maybe even have some cool features its just you don't really need them. Spend the money you save on a good rest and good release.

Also a little note on saving some extra scratch. Wait till December to buy any accessories then scour ebay and other online sites. Usually can buy last years model brand new for a lot cheaper. Thats what I did and saved over $100 bucks on the rest, sight and quiver. That said your archery shop may not like it so you may check with them first. Mine was cool and was like what ever you need to do to save a little money thats cool. It resulted in me buying a little more expensive bow from him actually.

Lastly definitely shoot everything you can get your hands on. When I started my bow search Mathews was at the top of the list. By the time it was over it was towards the bottom. Supershort ATAs were just not for me. For me anything under about 32" was just too short and I couldn't shoot worth a damn. The EZ7 was the only one I liked and they don't make that one anymore.

Good luck in your searching and get home safe.

    Thanks for your service!

-As for bows, I wouldn't limit myself, although I'm partial to Bear and wouldn't shoot anything but a Bear, I know hypocritical, right?
-I just bought the Beman ICS Hunter arrows, absolutely love them
-Everyone seems to have a QAD rest, I plan to buy one after I shot someones bow thats the same as mine and its freakin sweet.
-I still use the Trophy Ridge Sight that came on my Bear Lights Out. I like it, its bright in low light. I have 3 pin's.
-I use the stabilizer that came with my bow, its trophy ridge.

Good luck in your decision and with your hunting season!!
