As for base layers, where do your priorities lie? Moisture wicking? Scent control (I know...related to scent control a bit, but more about comfort)? Warmth? I'm looking to upgrade my baselayers (I just have lightweight Red Head compression top and bottoms). I'm thinking of BaseLayers, but I'm also considering going with something that has good moisture wicking (especially in the early season). As a side addition question, when spraying in field (if you do so), do you spray every layer as you put them on? I always have...you certainly go through the spray quickly, but it gives me a little extra piece of mind. I was just thinking about this today, and was curious about what everyone here does.
I use the Under Armour base layers for me that layer is all about the moisture wicking. I'll use the UA HeatGear in early season and then move to the UA ColdGear once it gets on later into the season. The work great. I do spray each layer as well. In early season I will also keep my spray in my pack and spray again once I get in stand.
Same here, but I don't spray each layer as I put it on. With my scent control regiment, I try to keep it as scent free as possible before I put it on in the field.....I never dress before I am out the door and ready to head to the stand.
Moisture wicking is what it's all about. You cannot be warm if you're wet, and if it's warm out, being wet is uncomfortable. And, moisture wicking material will keep you cooler if it's warm and warmer if it's cool. Scent control is a nice feature, but it's not NEARLY as important as moisture control. Warm weather or cold, ya gotta stay dry.
Scent control. If I'm wearing it in the timber, it may as well be functional. If it doesnt say scent blocker- I'm not wearing it
im looking more for moisture wicking, you dont get cold from the cold weather you get cold from you sweat freezing, so i try and eliminate that. then ill layer on for the warmth but under armour is always the first thing i put on.
Above all, warmth comes first. If your muscles are freezing up, you won't be dumpin' the bowstring on anything! Hunting is so much more enjoyable when you're comfortable!
