In order to quit smoking, I have:
    done the patches
    done the gum
    done the zyban
    done the chantix

    Everyone of them failed.

In March, I got sick with the flu and was down for 2 weeks. I didn't smoke while I was sick and at that time didn't care whether I lived or died.

On September 4th, it will be six months tobacco free. Who would have thought cold turkey would work when everything else failed.

Still taking it one breath at a time.

It worked because you made it work instead of wanting those other voodoo remedies to work.

Nice work, I am very proud and happy for you.

    Big-time congratulations to you Mark!

My father started smoking when he was 15... I tried and tried and tried to get him to quit... threatened him with not being able to see his grandkids when I had them (this was before I had them...)... everything, you name it.

He hasn't smoked now in about five years... wanna know what made him finally quit? Cigarette prices finally got too high for him... Imagine that. Just one day he decided they were too high and hasn't taken another puff since -- after over FIFTY YEARS.

I still shake my head to this day at the thought.

    Anyway... congrats again, my friend.

Thank you all. If it had not been for the flu, I'd probably still be puffing away. Started when I was 13 years old as a way to rebel against my recently divorced parents. Picked up more when in basic training when those who smoked got a 15 -20 minute break to light one up and those who didn't got to stand guard over equipment. I am thankful to the flu for making me too sick to smoke. Now, when I smell a cigarette burning, I hold my breath until I am upwind of the smoke. Want to be here for years and years for my Granddaughter who will be here in November.

Congrats! It's a great feeling. I need to quit chewing. I make it about a week and can't take it. Sunflower seeds seem to be helping, however.

Of course, I did gain 30 lbs when I quit and still haven't been to get any of that off.

Great job, anyone who quits smoking has my respect, I also quit similar to the way you did about 10 years ago. Only difference is I still LOVE the smell of cigarette smoke. Anytime I pass someone smoking, I inhale as much as I can....:)
