I usually don't worry about my hunting season and plans until around May when I know if I drew a tag and what area/season it is. That usually influences my pre-season prep work. Once I know, I usually start shooting with field points throughout the week (shooting at the ground squirrels is a great practice session.) and hitting the maps. I usually try and scout the area within 3 - 4 weeks ahead of the season, just to kind of get a feel for the area.

Going to be putting in two food plots this season and run cameras all year long now! Went out this morning and pulled down one of my stands and checked a few cameras. Did discover that two of my cameras were stolen which really sucks.

Just started riding my bicycle so I can be in shape for season. I will be chasing elk for the first time in my life, an as a 50 yr old fat man I don't want search and rescue to have to come bail me out.

Exercise, shoot new bow at least once a week, start finishing new hunting cabin, hang new stands along with moving or revising old ones, and study the property map till I can't take it anymore...then oct 1 will be here

Plant a couple of food plots. Have all my stands hung by the end of March. Shoot my bows from an elevated position and my ground blind as much as I can. Setup and use my camera when I am practicing from the tree.

Striper fishing and playing golf. They both help my hand/eye coordination.

I hear you! Between early waterfowl (Sept) straight into bow season and all along duck and goose hunting at the same time, by February I'm ready to maybe shoot a couple dogs and one or two snow goose hunts but man, its Nice to take a break. Me and my buddies all roll straight into snow geese then crappie fishing and turkey hunting. It really is a vicious cycle.

that stinks about trail cams Jfergus.. were they on public or private? It seems you have to really disguise them these days. My dad had one stolen off his private piece.. I think if someone trespasses, and then realizes they got caught on camera, their natural instinct is to cover up and steal the camera. I try to put them high and is low travel areas no one is likely to walk through.

They are on private and now to possibly make matters worse I just found out from the landowner that the state has claimed the property and is going to be turning it into habitat restoration land. Not sure what that means to my hunting yet.

I'm going to ask my father in law, and the adjoining landowner if I can put in a couple of small food plots. I've never had a food plot, so this is new for me.....

Planted 2 clover plots 2 weeks ago that are probably flooded/frozen now lol hung up trail cams made a mineral site cleared some shooting lanes marked some trees for some new stands when I get a buddy to come help me, walked miles upon miles of woods shed hunting and haven't found a damn thing. It's been a rough month and a half between the clover and not finding any sheds lol hopefully my luck turns when turkey season starts the 23rd

Actually plan on moving stands around and hopefully getting couple more. Scout more, perhaps a food plot or two, and practice with bow. I slack pretty bad on shooting my bow during the off season but this year I plan on getting a new bow so I'll haveta sling some arrows to get used to it.

Building up my vacation time, time spent in the tree is one of the biggest factors in success.
