Going on an out of state hunt, especially to the midwest that is well known for big bucks is expensive, regardless of how you do it. Tag prices are getting higher and higher and finding good property to hunt is getting more and more scarce. I choose the outfitter route not because I don't know what I'm doing, but for quality land access. I don't have the time or funding to spend driving back and forth to the midwest on scouting trips. Don't kid yourself either, not all outfitters operate the same way. Some will hold your hand every step of the way, while others will point you in the right direction and leave you to figure it out.

A 170" or even a 150" deer is not behind every tree out there. TV has really warped that reality for many. What I'm finding is that their average buck is bigger and their big bucks are giants. If you pass on a 150" deer, there is a good chance you'll come home empty handed.

Any one heard of Xtreme hunts out of pike county IL. or heart land lodge out I think the same area. Just trying to get some other peoples opinion. Looking to book a hunt for 2015 I either have oct 26-30 or nov. 14-18. What would you guys think about what dates I should book?

I can't pass a 140" 8 point unless I know there is a better one working the same area.
