Sh*t down both pant legs. That would make the rungs of the ladder slick and make it hard for him to climb.
It sure the heck wouldn't have been "hey what are you doing here"? in a calm voice while he was one step from me lol.
I can't watch the video here at work (youtube is blocked) but I know which one you are talking about. I think Jay Leno or Letterman showed that clip a little while back. Pretty cool but I'm sure I would have said something a bit sooner. :D
I've had bear crawl my tree 4 different times. I wouldn't do nothing, their not after you. Their eye sight sucks and their curious animals thus why bear will sometimes crawl a tree a hunter Is In. Trust me folks, their not coming up after you.
About 7-8 seconds into the video, the bear stands broadside. That'd be the first time I let an arrow fly.
That is obviously a circus bear. Look how good he is at climbing ladders. I would either given it some treats, or a ball to play with. I wonder if it can ride a bicycle?
I've had a few encounters with Bear here in my State. I've learned a few things 1- They're not scared of humans, at all, here in my State, at least. 2- I'm pretty sure they think we're funny. 3- They already know they can kick our butts, if they so desire. So, if one decides you're it's new sparring partner, you really can't do anything about it. 4- If you act like you didnt see them, they just go about what they were doing, prior to your arrival. 5- If you stop and stare, they feel that is an open invitation to come closer and smell you. When all is said and done, I don't fear bear. I will admit that seeing a sow with cubs gets me a little on edge, but, that's about it. Honestly, I would have tried to shoe that bear off before he got that close to my stand.
Next time, wash your hands after breakfast to get the syrup off your fingers. It's obvious that he is sizing up the breakfast buffet.
As soon as the bear started to climb the ladder I would of asked him what he is doing. Not waited till he was almost at the top of the ladder.
That was my thought, looks like that bear has climbed ladder stands hundreds of times. Next time use screw in steps and we'll see just how good he is!
