I'm graduating from college in less than a month...knock on wood.. I've taken my physical fitness assessment as well as my polygraph for a local law enforcement agency and waiting to hear back but welcoming new ideas if it doesn't work out the first go-around; 1,100 applicants, accepting 35. Can yall provide some recommendations to what you would do if you were 22 again? I've been thinking about UPS and FedEx as part-time, even potentially working my way up. Keep in mind, I'm more of a hands on than desk kind of guy. Thank you

Thank you and that's a good idea. I've thought about it and looked into it a little bit and although I love those guys and what they stand for, there's not much room for promotion in future years. It could definitely be a stepping stone though.

I was in your shoes once and chose local law enforcement. I don't know what kind of guy you are but once i was in law enforcement I wished I had just joined the military and put in 20. It all depends on what you want out of life. If you want you can pm me and we can chat about law enforcement. Good luck to you on whatever you decide.

If I was 22 again, I think I'd go on welfare and medicaid, get married and have about 40 kids and while I sat back getting fat...I'd laugh at all the dumb effers like me that went in debt for a career that was totally dependent on the weather.

What type of industry do you have in your area? Here in Louisiana were I live there are tons of oil refineries and chemical plants when different type of trades. I was 25 when I got hired on in a plant and wish I would have started earlier lol

I've been in law enforcement for 25 years. Worked my way up to chief. If you really want to get into the profession don't give up. You could try dispatching, I assume with over 1000 apps and 35 open positions your in large city. Getting into a 911 center you could meet some contacts.

If you're going to go down one of your mentioned options, Fed Ex is the better of the two.
