I hunt alone because I've only had one friend that was as serious as me and unfortunately he's gone. Most of my friends won't do what I do so they don't hunt with me because I don't wait. If I get something I can't get out on my own I can make a call and they will help but so far so good.
I've fallen asleep in my stand.........and I don't even wait until I get down to take a leak, I just let it rain.........never had an issues seeing or killing deer. If your gun can't shoot 60 yards that's a YOU problem. I personally value my friends way more than some mangy deer in the woods. My best friend is a lot like your guy here, makes noise, over hunts, gets busted a LOT, no scent control, makes more poor decisions then good ones but he is my best friend of 30+years and would do anything in the world for me..........I give him his space in the woods and we laugh ourselves silly at the stories over the years. I have had no trouble killing deer hunting with him. Don't blame your friend for everything that doesn't go your way in the woods. Enjoy his friendship or tell him to get lost. Whichever is more important to you, a best friend or a deer.
If you want, you can keep him as your buddy........just not your hunting buddy. Seriously, if you really want to hunt with someone else, it has to be someone that is at least close to sharing your hunting values. And I agree with others, showing up an hour late is just plain rude. Blessings..........Pastorjim
I honestly prefer to hunt alone. I like to be able to make every decision for myself. I've hunted in a group, and seems like there's always friction about something. I prefer to just go it alone, me and the deer, one on one. I win or they win. Luckily if I kill a deer, I have some family or some of my hunting friends will help me if I need it, and I will help them if they need it. We just don't hunt together.
