In the corner of an ag field where several great trails come out of some bedding stands only one decent tree to put a hang on. It is a poplar tree I believe. My dilemma is it's all white and 97% of the trees around it are typical dark trees. I've decided my stand is going on it cause the spot is so good. I have some dark old carpet that I'm thinking about wrapping around the tree area where I will be sitting so my dark camo doesn't make me stand out like a blob up in the tree. The carpet being there 24/7 will make the deer get used to the dark abnormality up there. Would you do the same or would you invest in camo that's white patterned or possibly just not worry about it at all? I really don't want to buy more camo but will if I have to. Thanks.
With the dark back ground behind the tree I would not worry about it. Just don't move around a lot and you should be fine.
I agree with Copperhead. When I do my scouting to find a new stand I usually step back 20-30 yards and picture myself in the tree to see what the animal would see. In this you have a good backdrop behind you. In the early fall when leaves are on the tree you will not have any issues. One thing you might want to try is when your sitting in a lone tree like that one my dad will try to find a big tree branch that he can lean up against the tree to where it almost crosses to where the stand is. It doesn't seem like much but it really does add more and breaks up the siloette. If this doesn't make sense let me know and I'll draw up a quick picture. Either way, I don't think that stand looks as bad as what you think it is. The main thing is to not get busted moving as movement is what they really dial in on especially in a lone tree.
Clothes are a HUGE investment... I wouldn't worry about buying a whole new suit unless you will use it for other stuff. Another option is second hand off of Ebay perhaps. Otherwise, maybe consider a ground blind.
Holy foreign language! That's some good camo but I got confused just trying to figure how to order it. But I would pass cause i'm tight on cash anyways.
Thanks, ebay is a good idea i may look there. No ground blind hunting for me. I'm near suburbs and have to be elevated 5 ft at least.
As for the other replies thanks I'll look into brushing it in some. If I get busted a lot maybe I'll come up with a different strategy for that spot but will feel better about hunting it now with your responses.
I honestly wouldn't really worry about it. Camo patterns really aren't too important. Its mainly your movement, when you have deer around you just stay still and wait for your opportunity for a shot. good luck brother
Here is a link to places where you can buy the camo. It is not expensive at all. The one called Propper looks like a good fit. Propper Poly / Cotton Ripstop BDU Pants @ TacticalGear.com Retailers |
