Could be from a broadhead. 1/4d to shot from high elevation, deer moving right to left. Grazing shots can slice the hide, as it heals and dries, the wound opens wide. Unfortunately, I know this because of my first ever shot at a deer with my bow. Missjudged the yardage and shot high. Tracked her as far as I could but the blood trail eventually stopped. Two weeks later, we got this Trail cam photo in front of my dad's house. Poor thing, I suspect she did not make the winter. I'm sure the wolves got a meal though.
That is my guess also, road rash. Just wanted other opinions. Thanks My second guess was Chuck actually did try to throw an ax through an animal. Eric
I'd say road rash too, mostly because there are 2 other wounds a little futher back. Amazing pic's though, and incredibly tough animals.
